I don't know if this show is on in the UK, but it's getting pretty big airtime over here.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HejYngWPV0A

Now to me this just seems like eco-terrorism, under the guise of a reality show. They board vessels illegally, they throw things at the vessels, which may seem like a tool to them, but is VERY dangerous on a ship at sea. They attempt physical damage to the vessels, and so on and so forth. Now this to me is no different to the people who attack abortion clinics, etc, and yet that is illegal, and certainly not glorified on TV... Anyone else watched this 'show'?

Never heard of it.

But then, if I was in charge, the Royal Navy would have permission to blow whaling ships out of the water........

You realise whaling ships are there legally? By your reckoning, and if you want your logic to continue beyond your own beliefs, the world would be Vegan.

Do you approve of whaling? The telling word is "Reasearch" in big letters on the Japanese whaling ship's side. It is not doing research, it is killing whales inhumanely to feed the Japanese. Personally I'd sink the bl00dy lot of them (the whalers, that is).

No, I eat meat. But I don't believe we should hunt animals to extinction. Nor kill them cruelly. Oh I'd also open fire on Shark Finning ships...........

That is not the issue. Fine... next time some commie hippie takes a dislike to your car, (can't you just use public transport and think of the bunnies), and does something to it, you shall applaud their action?

It matters not a jot if you agree or not with the whalers. The fact is that this is eco-terrorism? You think if this continues it will not creep over into other things? As someone who works at sea, if someone boarded our vessel illegaly, there would be hell on. What they are doing is 'illegal'. What part of illegal do you not understand?

You realise that these whales are not considered endangered?

Completely agree with you 350GT

I despise whaling as much as anyone.

But the guys attacking the whaling ships are "literally" no better than Terrorists! Until the LAW is changed, then this is terrorist action...simple as!!

They have a problem with whaling they need to go after the politicans. Not some people making a livelihood out of a LEGAL activity.

It's no different to those people that broke into Heathrow and caused chaos on the runways!

Throwing things to make the deck slippery? And what if a crew member dies as a result? Whilst whaling isn't the nicest of things, this is (IMO) unacceptable of the lentilists. Fine, use sonars etc to scare the whales off, but to attack the ship is too far. Perhaps the French could come in and sink the feckers, did a good job last time.

The hilarious thing is that these people will throw things at the whaling ships, and yet they are aghast when they throw things back. hell, one of their guys was shot with a rubber bullet whilst doing one of their actions. I'm sorry, but I utterly agree with keeping these idiots away from any vessel I was on.

Indeed until they are they should be allowed to carry on.

Although there are better ways of having these whales for meat. That is to be allowed to capture some and breed them. Yes this is possible, as they have run out of the big whales so going for smaller ones now.

What? Breeding whales? Never heard of such a thing. I have no idea if that is a piss taking post, or not.

No you aren't allowed to, that is the point I was making.

But it is possible to do, so why not do it?

No idea... There must be a reason they aren't.

Presumably, he is giggling at the whale farming suggestion, as I admit I did, and wasn't sure if your post was genuine.. Seemingly it is possible, and being considered.

Yes I discussed it with the man on the ferry to Spain. He works for Biscay Dolphin Research Programme (and yes does study a lot of whales as it is really a whale and dolphine programme).

1. Not until they can kill them cleanly
2. Just because something isn't endangered doesn't mean the numbers are low and wholesale slaughter should be allowed to continue. We need not wait until an animal is nearly extinct before doing something about it.
3. Why is Whale Hunting lawful? Take a look at the countries who voted in favour, and compare and contrast those nations with the nations which "recently" got funding from Japan.......
