This is from the leader of the same party who gave the green light for the third runway at LHR.

BA are on their knees, with the Ryan Air moving alot of it flights to European slots due to the reduction of taxes there. British jobs eh? What a tt.

Wonder if this will apply to MP's on <ahem!> 'Fact Finding Missions'?

Oh silly me - that's not real money or air miles is it?

Nice to know this extra revenue will join all the rest we pay to actively combat the mythical Man Made Climate Change...

Ah...

"Brown's warning came as Energy Secretary Ed Miliband warned the average Briton was still not doing enough to combat climate change.

He said: "People believe climate change is happening in the UK... "

NO WE DON'T YOU TOSSER!

My blood pressure has just soared. They are determined to destroy business and industry in this country. It'll be too expensive to travel by land, sea or air soon. The Far East must be laughing all the way to the bank.

They don't want to destroy business per se. They simply want all the money that the populace have......

Dublin airport is already enjoying a boom thanks to this . Savvy NIers get the train down and fly out from there, especially those in business/first long distance. Stupid thing is that the majority till fly via Heathrow.

On the bmi forum, it's a known trick to fly to other airports on no frills airlines before flying business/first long distance when redeeming points for flights (because you still need to pay taxes and fuel surcharges on top)

So...the same week as people are turning up for work at BA unpaid, he announces this???

Shame we can't just call an air-strike in on No.10 and put an end to this nonsense.

I am surprised that Ryanair haven't put out a statement calling Brown a w****r.

The tickets for my upcoming flight to the States were £1200. Total cost after tax...£2000. Nice to know the environment will be saved!

We won't be going next year.

So the policy is working then!

Not that I agree with all the climate change misinformation but they say they want people to travel less, you are now travelling less, ergo their policy is working.

How they will recover the tax that you are now not paying as a result of not travelling is another matter biggrin

Correct, I'm travelling less. Which means the airline, the airport and all the other associated companies will have less passengers and consequently, less turnover.

It also means we won't be able to visit our family. It also means that I continue to hate Brown and his ecomentalist scaremongering more and more each day!

If it was a valid argument, I'd swallow it. But we all know it's a badly disguised tax grab.

I seem to remember Brown only put £10 on per flight as an environmental tax, although Cameron proposed a lot more. There are no taxes on aircraft fuel so I'd say that so far flying is very lightly taxed. I don't think there's even VAT on flights is there?

That would be funny if it didn`t appear to be the truth after the raping of the tax payer this year.

Errr no nono

Currently ex-european flights are £40 in economy or £80 in PE/business/first.

Brown plans to raise the top rate economy tax to £85 - this is a greed/envy tax which is going to hit the industry hard.

But its only the first of many, in every and any industry or area you care to name.

The country is basically bankrupt because of the one eyed scottish tt in charge, and tax is going to rise inexorably.
