The previous world's oldest man has died leaving our very own Henry Allingham as the new leader at 113.

Fortunately we also have Bruce Forsythe waiting in the wings, just in case.

When I think of Henry Allingham and his contemporary, Harry Patch and what they and their generation went through - did they get their "Land fit for heroes?". Did they Hell.

Compared with the lot of the 'working man' up until 1914, I'd suggest they did.

None of the veterans (admittedly of WW2) I've ever met ever wanted handouts, charity, or anything from anyone except a quiet life.

True enough. They, we, whoever, just don't make men like that anymore.

Sadly he only held that milestone for a little over a month.

RIP Henry Allingham, the last surviving founder member of the RAF. He said "I saw too many things I would like to forget but I never will forget them, I never can forget them". Lets hope that despite his passing, the sacrifices of his generation aren't forgotten.

Sad day no doubt, just heard it on the News. The changes he must have seen is phenomenal!

Something that did make me chuckle though..
