Read that earlier and had to check that it wasn't April 1st again. Hope it gets thrown out of court and they have costs awarded against them.

How the fcensoredk can a light switch be religious discrimination?

Do we assume that when there is no light and the silly tt falls flat on his face he won't sue as there was too little light available?

What is the world coming to

Actually, most of the Israelis who aren't ultra-orthodox are pissed off at these folk too. Especially as they're the ones having the largest families, building the settlements, and have a big voice in their government (more once their children grow up). Most people in Israel who do obey the Sabbath aren't as anal about it as these people.

Oh, and who said anything about these people who 'decided to come here'? While I don't agree with the Colemans legal action, there is NO mention of their nationality, so stop making out as if they are immigrants - would a UK-born Muslim be someone who 'decided to come over here' to you as well?.

rsv gone!

Many of the orthodox Jews I've met actually install timers on their lighting circuits to automatically operate them, meaning they don't have to 'work' to do it. These sensors sound like exactly the sort of thing they'd look for!

Ok, here's the counter arguement using their own warped ideals.

"Suggesting a change of electrical lighting system to comply with another religion breaches the rights of free British citizens of a Christian country that require light is shone in darkness as a sign of God's light shining on man protecting him from the darkness of evil."

So stuff that!

If this case gets through, it's going to be interesting health & safety law vs religious law in the future.

Ho completely bizarre, some Jew’s get round the Sabbath laws by using a "goy" to turn on the lights etc, cant see any difference between getting a none dead sea pedestrian to turn on a light and having it work automatically!

I'm all for personal religious freedom.

However; as soon as you try to make your religious dogma impinge on anyone or anything else I'm strongly inclined to cordially invite you to censored off.

Your ignorant superstition is your problem and yours alone.

They have said they will drop the legal action if an override switch is installed and their legal costs and compensation are paid.
OK, so they want to kick off, but will all be OK if they are paid off.

this is ridiculous. I can't see how an automatic switch can be a problem. Some Jews in North London employ gentiles to switch things on for them on the Sabbath.

In all fairness to the couple, they did offer to cover all of the costs involved of getting the override switch installed at first but their request was denied by the landlord. I don't think its about the money, I wouldn't imagine they are short of a bob or two, because, well you know....
