fk this, I rarely use my phone line anyway, I get a zillion free minutes with my mobile so that does the trick. Wireless broadband, it's the future.

I don't have a landline and haven't had for years.

Mobile broadband is here to stay. smile

What does the "Changed role for Channel 4" amount to I wonder though?

Time to kick the landline into touch and go wireless then.

To Winky and Co: Leave what little of my money I don't already give to you alone. It's mine, i've worked for it, so keep your thieving socialist one-eyed st-stained mitts off it.

Thank fk. I was worried that I might have to keep some of my own money. Luckily Gordon's taken it.

Is this where we are taxed to pay for something private companies should be investing in, then once we have paid for it the lines will be given over to private companies so they can charge us to use what we paid for?

From what I've heard, they're considering extending the benefactors of the licence fee to include other terrestrial channels.

Exactly.

It's just that satellite dishes and cable TV were never Govt policy. As soon as it becomes policy, a new tax pops up to pay for it.

So 50p per month per phoneline

Lets guess how much it will cost to administrate and pay for all those extra government non jobs

Optimist.

At least £4, so the 50p will soon rise....

This amounts to nothing more than a tax on wking.

And I for one am not going to stand for it.

If legislation preventing BT from cherry picking, when it was sold off, had been put in place, this new "tax" would be unnecessary.

Fantastic thing, opening comms to a "free" market. rolleyes

linked article on BBC said:
"It is a contribution which we are asking people to make - it's six pounds a year - offset, as we make very clear in the report, by the likely continued reduction in headline prices because of the competitive market we have in this country," said report author Lord Carter.
So, asking or forcing?
If asking, then my response is "fk off!"
If forcing it upon me, then my response is "I don't fking think so!"

As above, it's incumbent upon the providers to provide the service in those areas where the uptake doesn't pay the outlay, so those of us in urban areas are likely to be already subsidising the rural areas.

Hmmm, does it apply to wireless?

If not I'll be ditching my Virgin BB and getting a wireless dongle.

A tax of 50p a month will be levied on every fixed line connection
I ditch the fixed cable connection and buy a wireless dongle. Don;t pay the tax and potentially save a bit of money on my current rip connection.

Or am I missing something, happens quite regularly.... wink
