He thinks it will make people like him and that he's 'in touch' with things.

Is it illegal for a PM to make a joke? How about "Despite being the world's best player in the eyes of many, the £80million transfer fee flowing into the country is an unexpected financial bonus! I've said in the past that increased spending is the way to recover from this crisis in the shortest time possible, and I would encourage Sir Alex to do the same."

it is just wrong that a guy that has absolutely no interest in what is going on outside of sleeze street takes an interest in something in order to improve his status....plus dont forget this government is a black hole, 10pence in the pound is the value we get and thats probably optimistic but we can dream....

I'm guessing he was asked the question so he gave an answer? Seems reasonable. And in fairness he is a football supporter. What I object to is him being guest of honour at England football internationals when as a Scot English international matches are none of his business.

What was much more crass was the Susan Boyle business which he (or his PR) instigated. That and saying that he listened to the Arctic Monkeys on his ipod. laugh

Poll in the Times today said that more than 50% of people thought his remaining PM was damaging to Britain. I still expect there to be a leadewrship challenge in the Autumn as the polls worsen.

What he's saying doesn't 'scan' right. It just sounds odd.

as i know nothing about football (and have no wish too !) can someone explain how any of the 80 million will help this country ?

shirley it will be 'pocketed' by the club with a proportion going to the prima donna footballer

Well he certainly has a knack for picking winners. He praised Lehman Brothers in 2004.

Well, yes... it would have been a joke. The only link would have been the money coming into the UK. You're right that it will mostly disappear back out of the country.

Well I'll stick up for Winky. I think he should be made a football commentator for Radio Glasgow with such insightful and engaging comments.

Anything that stops the dopey cyclops playing at Prime Minister.
