Turnout was huge, apparently. I imagine there'll be hell to pay if there's any inconsistencies.

What will be even more teeth-grindingly annoying is when he inevitably starts lecturing Iran about democracy mad

The news was good...burning debris on the streets & the traffic was just driving round it like it was not an issue...Some scooters were sporting extra bolt on protective fairings like something from a Mad max prop dept to protect them from flying debris ...hehe

Some Iranian folks were on the news saying that crackdowns only increase just after elections, not before; Teheran are masters of timing when it comes to oppression. There is evidence to support his claims. Social blogging sites were getting fired up against Dinnerjacket and ....oops!....the government shut down the internet nationwide. That just about tells me all I need to know. rolleyes
This same fellow was saying that there is division amongst the ruling clergy (the real power)like never before. That shows some promise. The word on the street was that if the other guy won and tried to veer to far from the path of Islamic tradition, the Revolutionary Guard would "crush" any such activity. The positive side is that the Iranian electorate are very into the process.

you cant have real democracy in a country that favours a single religion...

My best friend at School was Iranian, they fled to England after the Shah was deposed. He and his family were the most wonderful people. This is very sad, personally I think Iranian's are the most sensible and educated out of all the middle eastern Countries.
