Gordon's Democratic Renewal - Unelected positions for all!
Discussion
This week Gordon Brown, the PM without a mandate, has been talking about "democratic renewal". Many regard Winky as an "unelected" PM, having bullied his way into the top job by avoiding a party leadership election and a General Election. I find it more offensive that twice disgraced Mandleson, Deputy PM in all but name (and the guy who is now running the show) is completly unelected.
Gordon Browns government now includes 20 Ministereal positions appointed to unelected lords.
If he wants "democratic reneweal" he should start by mandating that Ministereal Positions are only held by democratically elected MPs.

Gordon has had a damascene conversion to democratic renewal since little over 5% of eligible voters supported him at the polls last week. The irony of a PM who avoided facing election to be leader of his own party and has no democratic public mandate wanting “democratic renewal” is striking. If he really wishes to reconnect with voters he could always call a general election.
How democratic is his own government?

Well anyone who thought the "reform" of the lords was about anything else but getting cronies into power was a left wing thinking, non fact reading fool.
before Bliars reforms the Lords had not been particularly partisan one way or another on the whole. Now though, more and more "Lords" are getting in as government (therefore Labour)appointees and with the reforms only half done they aren't due to leave, well, ever.
democracy is after all not the central tenate of the socialist manifesto.

Nor is freedom for the proles. Honesty. Decency. Honour. Equality for all. These things appear to bypass the lefties. It never ceases to amaze me that those who pretend to advocate such things don't appear to actually realise what they mean.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
