Sorry if this is a repost or is on the wrong forum page, but, what does everyone think of this?

I think this is another potential gaping hole in the country's management of personal details, and the fact that you have to opt out (as you are already opted in) is very stupid. How long will it be before it is abused?

I suppose it brings home the fact that your details are sold on to loads of different marketing companies without you really knowing.

As an example, I set a phone line up in Dec at our house. The only companies that had our home phone number were BT and O2 (broadband supplier). Just last month we had numerous calls from Talk Talk trying to sell us broadband. Bit miffed really as our details have obviously been sold on for profit for the above two companies.

Edited to add:

Just checked their website http://www.118800.co.uk/faqs.html

It seems that you will be charged to text your opt-out message to them. So, even if you are on the list without your consent, you will be charged to be removed via the cost of your text! WTF! How annoying! Unless I have read that wrong?? mad

So, make sure you ring the 0800 number! (Handy with a mobile, of course!)
