Just heard an interview with him on LBC. The man is a selfish Fcensoredg Ccensoredt.

He couldn't give a damn that thousands of people will be affected by the Tube strike.

The CcensoredT

end of rant!

Ever been to Paris? Transport workers strike on a weekly basis there.

So, pay increase agreed and assurances given that there will be no frontline compulsory redundancies... yet no deal (back in the real world most people would be quite happy with a pay rise and the prospect of no job losses)

WTF?!?! rage

Wait until the Olympics is on us - he'll be asking for 100% and jobs for the whole family. The tube system will be closed down every other day then. This is just the warm up.

What is the point of a Union these days, in these times of free legal advice and tighter employment laws to protect the workers?

To give oxygen-thieves like Crow something to do with their feckless little lives, presumably.

The unions are strongest these days in sectors where they can increase their pay and conditions above what is commercially viable, with the understanding that the taxpayer will pick up the difference.

It is why the railways still consume vast subsidies each year, despite carrying the most passengers since their heyday.

Spot on. It's going to be a cash bonanza for transport employees.

We should be training squadies right now to get them ready for 2012.

I'd love it if Govt publicly announced that they were training up a team to take over running the tube and buses ready for when Crow tries to screw over the UK in the run up to the Olympics. Would be quite funny to see his rage. biggrin

I think Bob Crow is here through a reverse of the Life on Mars phenomenon, except that he doesn't realise it. He thinks it really is still the 1970s.

bring on the military engineers.....strike as long as you want and the service is still going on!

then table a deal that is realistic and if they dont like it, hire new people who want the job at the going rate! once the problem is solved, military goes back! no disruption in service!

In Lyons (France) many of the subway lines are driverless with the trains being controlled by computers. Obviously it's a much simpler network than the Tube, but it is also twenty-five years old now.

Perhaps now is the time to invest money in updating the system so that we can get rid of these blood-sucking blackmailers once and for all?

Well according to thw Evening Standard, the sticking point is about two people who got sacked (gross misconduct!) that they want reinstating...

The maritime union Nautilus is one of the exceptions to the rule here. Due to the nature of shipping, many mariners get right-royally-shafted on pay and conditions, and due to the nature of their work can't always devote the time to fight their case. I also imagine the UK Pilots' union, BALPA, isn't full of Bob Crow loudmouths who want to strike at the drop of a hat.

General unions for those whose employment is entirely within the UK seem fairly pointless - as mentioned, the individual has a lot more legal tools to hand these days.

It's Bob Crows job to get a good a deal for his members as possible, he seems to be very good at his job (better than my agent).

I'd say above inflatnio pay deal and no redundancies was good.

I'd love to know what the people who got sacked were guilty of doing...
