Just one question... Who cleared him? Labours own internal committee?

Edited: Ah, I see he is not... But does anyone else think this is rather odd AFTER an election? Is this the 'clearup' they are talking about?

He was on the front of Daily Telegraph for various things, including a massage chair and a home cinema system, but the thing he could have been caught out for was an allegation by the newspaper that he was paying his landlord less than the market rate.
Massage chair and surround sound were perfectly acceptable then. Give that chap a promotion.

how much does he get paid for this nonjob and why the hell are openly religious people given roles in government when it is obviously going to make people unhappy......it makes me think they really are determined to lose the next election and really are carrying out a scorched earth policy...

"Labour is the longest surviving political party in Great Britain stating that it stands for the representation of the low-paid working class, and it has historically been the working class who were known as the Labour Party grassroots and traditional members and voters"

Read that, Shahid Malik, that's the party YOU were elected for. Take the massage chair and giant TV that YOU expected the 'low-paid working class' to pay for and shove them up your arse.

At least with the soon-to-be-auctioned duck house, something else got the benefit wink

I'd not hold my breath (as crows don't hack each others eyes out do they?) And it seems that the politicos try to hold back from slagging each other (as opposed to policies) off too much at PMQs...

F ck me, it sounds like there are some questions to be answered there!

PMQ's. Yes. Damned well ought to be raised with Winky then, but we all know nothing will come of it. And I'm sure the 'R' card would be played damned quickly if a member of the public were to be behaving the same, eh?

The snag is that this is the conclusion that people WILL come to.

Superb. Simply superb! Let's see you get out of this filth son.

Telegraph said:
The Communities Minister claimed the maximum second home allowance for his London property while the office on the ground floor of his constituency house was funded through a separate parliamentary “office” expenses system.

The disclosure threatens to undermine the Prime Minister who only returned Mr Malik to government earlier this week after receiving assurances that his financial affairs were in order.

It now appears that Downing Street failed to scrutinise Mr Malik’s expense claims thoroughly before allowing him to hold ministerial office again.

The Daily Telegraph disclosed on Wednesday that Mr Malik had claimed more than £6,500 for a property described only as “office 2” on his parliamentary claim forms.

The minister had declined to tell this newspaper the location of the taxpayer-funded “office 2”. However, it can now be disclosed that “office 2” was the ground floor of his constituency home in Dewsbury.

Mr Malik said he needed the extra office space because the constituency office he inherited was not big enough.

However his expenses files show that he moved out of the original office into a new office in April 2006 but that he continued to submit claims for “office 2” until at least April 2008.

Mr Malik insisted last night that he paid rent separately for the “living area” of his constituency home. However, no formal rental agreement exists for the “living area” and Mr Malik would not disclose how much rent he paid.

Both the constituency office and his constituency house were owned by controversial landlord, Tahir “Terry” Zaman, a friend of Mr Malik. Mr Malik stepped down as justice minister last month after The Daily Telegraph reported his landlord’s claim that he was paying well below the market rate for the rent of his home in his Dewsbury constituency.

Tasty indeed, but he won't 'get out of' it. It'll just be hushed up, a few journos will ask a few difficult questions but he will refuse to give interviews and refuse to give straight answers to straight questions, and it will all die a death.

I garuantee that he will be returned to office next time, as well. Look at Malik, look at his constituency and hazard a guess as to how safe his seat is. The options are "Very Safe" or "Very Very Safe" (or possibly "Safer than a bet for England to win at Wembley last night.")

Did anyone expect anything other than a whitewash? Anyway, even if a corrupt MP leaves, they'll wait until the end of their term and walk away with a large bonus. rage

"I understand the point Mr Malik makes about the influence on him of religious and cultural norms in the Muslim community relating to payments made in cash, but the absence of a rental agreement and of receipts meant that he was left without a clear audit trail to show the payments he had made."
Exactly the sort of thing that gets people voting BNP (see other threads on here.)
