Two female Journalists are found guilty of spying, etc by Kim & crew. It was not for espionage but for illegal border crossing. The rhetoric is not high to the public about this. This might indicate that an attention-filled visit by some dignitary is all they are looking for in return for a release. Same of cr@p.:

Just pawns in a political game, they'll be released once Kim Jong Licenced To Ill has the US jump through a couple of hoops.

Has to be said, if you choose to be a western journalist in NK then it's a serious occupational hazard.

Well, yes, that old saying "half the fun is living dangerously", it is sort of a double edged sword.

I fully agree that they will be released after some homage is paid. The journalists being of Chinese descent adds a twist to the drama.

I think it would prove winky's position as a fantastic statesman and figurehead for this country if he went....................and even better if we could drop a few listing devices or maybe a camera or two in his luggage

Are these the two journos who along with their Chinese camera men, sound engineers and drivers, where taken against their will from the Chinese side of the border over to NK?

Thats the story I heard anyway.
Not sure. I read that they were taken near the border, not sure what side. They were convicted of the "Grave crime of crossing the Border".

From what I was told, Chinese national, (state controlled), press reported that they, and thier staff & chaperones were taken on the Chinese side of the border. No mention yet as to what has happened to the Chinese nationals.
It might be better if we just "relocated" Kim & his crew and turn the whole country over to the Disney Corporation to build a theme park. Everyone gets a job, standard of living goes up, etc.

Yes, and I made an absolute bks of the quotes. DOH!

Right then, try again.

From what I heard, the two reportors staff, (cameramen, sound engineers, etc), were all Chinese nationals. These people were taken as well, but no news yet as to what happened to them.

Also, check your email.

Cheers.
If that is the cas, the Chinese should have some play in this as well. BTW, answered your mail. smile

In the half century plus since the Korean war it has been very obvious to anybody with a reasonable knowledge of current affairs that the North Koreans don't like people from the west coming into their country. They also have a reputation for not being particularly nice to people that cross them. So I would be very wary of going anywhere near North Korea and I think these two journalists should have also taken a similar view.

The journalists pushed their luck and are at the mercy of people that will have no compunction about using them as pawns to further their own agenda on a world stage. It was completely predictable.

But actually this is what will save them, North Korea wants them out, so they'll bargain away until they get some concession on something and then the journalists will be released.

Hopefully others will learn from this and avoid the country in the future.
