I think the BBC are trying to make a bit more of it than there is

BBC said:
The Mayor of London Boris Johnson has fallen into a river while launching a drive to urge Londoners to volunteer.
He actually just stumbled into a deeper bit. He was already in the river.

Don't see anything wrong with that. Anyone else (from the Labour Party) would have made a huge fuss over it, requested a full parliamentary dry down, media "water watch" support and a public enquiry into the safety of rivers and their shocking depth changes.

Kinnock falling in the sea was embarrassing for him.

This is normal bafoonery for BJ, so no one will be surprised, least of all himself.

Labour and their BBC mates don't seem to understand that the public loves Boris for this stype of buffoonery.

Highlighting it does nothing other than make him more popular imho.

Indeed - an "independent commission" would be set up.

What a muppet.

But to his credit he was actually out there doing something rather than just talking.

TBF - the other guy wading in with him also fell. If you can't see under the water and there is a dirty great hole, what can you do?

As you say, at least he is getting his hands dirty.

Boris is a legend, and as said this type of thing just makes him more popular with us. To be honest that's exactly what would happen to me if I was wading in a river.

Now if Brown did that, I wouldn't have laughed. I would have just sighed when he got back up.

If I was the person alongside him I would have held his head under.

While helping to clear up the River Pool in Lewisham, south-east London, he tripped and fell in, getting wet up to around his chest, then stumbled away.

Mr Johnson was helped to his feet by volunteers who he was helping remove litter and plants from the river. He thanked them as they helped him up.

The mayor's office said they had no comment to make on Mr Johnson's fall.
Looked more to me like it just got deeper and that he didn't really fall or stumble, what a load of bks.
