Amazing work - but is it simply vandelism?

(And £600,000 damage? I don't think so...)

Unless permission was given to do it, then it's vandalism. Regardless of how well it's been done.

And it is really well done.

If that represents 600K, the field must be worth hundreds of millions.

What the hell are they growing?

Impressive, but still vandalism.

I hear that the experiments to make cannabis plants look like normal arable crops are going quiet well wink

That's the first time i've heard people associating vandalism with crop circles. I expect it'sbecause nobody thinks the crop circles are made by aliens or some kind of magnetic phenomenon anymore.

Nice work though but yes it's still vandalism. Or insurance fraud. hehe

They're missing a trick. They could charge people to come and look at it and they'd recover the loss in no time.

Public liability would be an issue I expect.

The farmer who owned the field which was on the cover of the Led Zepplin album charged people to walk to and on the site..

He made a fortune..

Not sure of the details, but the maths are simple - presume it's wheat - estimate yield of 4t/acre @ £120/t = £480/acre.

Then estimate the acreage destroyed by the crop circle and the damage done by the public wandering in to have a look.

Who knows, I'm just basing that on what people on here said when farmers were complaining about people using their land for sledging back when it snowed heavily.

Ahh. I have no idea to be honest. It would seem logical to me that a farm with essentially open boundaries would already have some form of public liability in place anyway. For instance, if someone jumped over the fence, ran around his field and then broke his leg, despite the fact it's trespassing, I'm fairly sure in this day and age where people shirk their own personal responsibility, the farmer would be found liable.

Or should I take off my tinfoil hat?

For the farmer to charge the public, the public would need to be able to see it. I suspect the view is less than impressive from ground level. Helium blimp on a tether anyone?

Correction: Mrs Spence inadvertently provided a figure of £600,000, rather than £600, for the damage caused, which was used in an earlier version of this story.

That makes a lot more sense. I want to see the 1000+ acre crop circle though...

On a related note did anyone see the BBC documentary years ago about crop circles? I can't remember what the program was- horizon maybe? The first 3rd or so was various new age types/loons banging on about how the only possible explanation was aliens and/or some kind of mysterious energy. The rest of the program was following the selection of cidered up locals who manufactured said circle using some lengths of rope, planks and a sketch they made in the pub.

The school of thought in the pseudo science crop circle camp relates to the current lack of sunspot activity & CME on July 7, 2009, during the penumbral lunar eclipse.
