Just saw this news and I'm wondering what could have possibly driven them to do that?

Blatant madness with a soupcon of selfishness, one would assume.

Many years ago, whilst serving on Search and Rescue I helped scoop up a jumper at Beachy Head.

We found out some time later that she was a nurse who had recently found out she was suffering from terminal cancer. The worst bit was the bits of her dog that she took with her.

The film was actually bad enough to make me consider killing myself half way through.

That story didn't say they jumped, it just says they were found at the bottom. Nothing like jumping to conclusions.

Our country has a pretty third world system of help for the mentally ill, both acute and chronic.

The lack of education perpetuates stigma. The people and their families are swept under the carpet and ignored, until perhaps a crisis situation provokes a reaction. It's very much reactionary. Whilst we bend over backwards for people about their skin colour and choice of imaginary friends, chucking a fortune and making sure we celebrate diversity and pay people to enforce it, the mentally ill, perhaps the most deserving of help are sidelined.

We have a lot of GP's who are unfit to be the frontline in this area.

It's odd how our PC guilt lets us not question the reality of some of the "disabled" but throw money and benefits at them anyway. There is bugger all help for people with/around the mentally ill and it's gets me fking angry when I see the same mistake made over and over again.

I also get fking angry when people go "selfish fking tt absorbed in their own pity". It is bullst. I thought that it was another woman with autistic kid. I grew up in a family and have seen the effect that my severely handicapped (and animal like) sister has driven my mum to. Despite family support, it is not sufficient. There is NOTHING available for respite or help. I've seen my mum driven to the edge. That isn't fking selfish, that is when you are mentally and physically worn out and there is no way out, apart from to kill yourself. Thankfully, I come from a solid family with plenty of resources, but it could have been a lot worse. You really have no idea at all.

Poor woman, she must have been in an awful state.

One of the most glib of comments is "How selfish?" It speaks huge volumes of ignorance. Selfish for a normal person, indeed.
