If this is true then he really does need to be removed by any means possible, whilst new blood is desperately needed in the higher elected ranks of the government, this is ridiculous and further proof of his complete and utter contempt for the democratic process

Coalition government, usually during time of war here, Lloyd-Goerge's WWI cabinet & Churchill's WWII cabinet were such cases.

Nothing to stop them at other times I think.

But a current government can't just choose to go into coalition can they? Doesn't there have to be a General Election for something as fundamental as this?

Or will this be a case of the Unelected Prime Minister forming an Unelected Government?

Why doesn't he just disband the Senate, change his name to Darth Brown, and declare himself Emperor and be done with it?

The government is made up of MPs and all MPs have been elected.

The party with the most number of elected MPs is invited by the Queen to form a Government.

A government is not formed of an arbitrary collection of elected MPs.

I never suggested it was.

You mean apart from when I suggested a Coalition Government would be unelected and you disagreed with me and pointed out all the MPs would be elected?

I hadn't suggested the government was an arbitrary collection merely pointed out that both the PM and all government members had been elected.

It would be suicide for the Lib-Dems to get into bed with the soon to be extinct Labour Party.

I was elected to represent something once.

Does this mean I can pipe up and say ps off I'm in charge of the country now.

Or did you not realise there are different elections?

Are you saying that each time the PM wants to change his cabinet that you want to vote on the matter?

And for that very reason, it's a marvellous idea.

Nothing new here. Blair came very close to putting Paddy Pantsdown in his cabinet after the 97 election but the size of his victory meant he didn't after all require Lib Dem support.

Way back in 1977 Jim "crisis what crisis" Callaghan did a deal with David "pipsqueak" Steel (the Lib-Lab pact) under which the Liberals would support the government in the event of a no confidence motion.

It would be sheer lunacy on the part of Clegg to agree to any of his people serving in a Brown government. So it will probably happen........

Untrue.

The governement consists of MP's who are elected and Peers who are unelected and are appointed by the PM. (Mandelson for instance - nobody elected that .) By my reckoning there are currently 18 unelected peers serving as ministers in HM Government.

When it involves a minority party, yes.

Blether.

No, it'll never happen. It will alienate grass roots Lib Dems and why would anyone go into coalition with a dead man / party walking?
