Did I hear correctly on the news? MPs are to receive redundancy payouts over their job losses due to them being lying, thieving, self-serving sts re the expenses claims? They're not being made redundant. They're being sacked!

How can they be entitled to redundancy payments if they are not classed as "employees"?

Oh, I forgot, they make up their own rules.

Surely they are only redundant if no new MP is going to be elected to their seat?

what's worse IMHO is that these MPs are "stepping down at next election", not quitting now! They haven't even got that amount of decency left in them.

I can imagine that if i'd been caught fiddling my expense like an MP but telling my boss "i'm going to resign next year over it and in the meantime I'll be here working hard for you" would be met with a swift P45 and escort from the premises!

Losing your seat at an election is the equivalent of being fired.

If an individual is fired, especially because of dishonesty or misbehaviour, then they would not be entitled to any sort of financial compensation.

This just shows they STILL don't get it.

Don't they get a lump sum to 'ease' them back into normal life if they get voted out. I guess if they resign they may not get it so they think it may be trying to get that final payment they think they are 'due'

I know it was what the Speaker was trying to hang on to.

Eric, I think MPS still get a large pay off if they lose an election to allow them financial breathing space to find a new job etc.
