Even though it is awful - sound like they were walking about pissed up at the crack of dawn...

Why would being pissed be an aside to being stabbed? Would it be worse if he was sober?

Drunk behaviour?

No he does not deserve to be stabbed, but you need to respect other countries while you are there, locals won't take kindly to it. Also as no Italian team is in the final and knowing Italian football is notorious for stabbings, would you not think twice?

Make sense?

A much more surprising headline would be:

"NO MAN UTD FANS STABBED: "IT'S A COMPLETE MYSTERY" SAYS A CARABANIERI SPOKEMAN.

The 2 points of being stabbed, and being drunk are utterly apart. You say he didn't deserve to be stabbed, yet you need to respect foreign cultures/customs. I realise that and agree, hence my post, but really, the way you formed your sentence you imply that because he was drunk it was 'sort of alright' that he was stabbed.

Him being drunk probably just picked him out as the target - it was always going to happen to somebody.

I love Rome, it is one of my favourite cities, but I would never go to watch my team play there.

Agree, there will more than likely be 3-4 stabbings like this today, mainly in the arse and upper legs, you've just got to keep your witts about you when you go 'away' and stick together as a group.

Heard something on the radio last night saying that the reason they always stab you in the arse or upper legs is because Italian law treats a stabbing below the waist as a lesser crime than stabbing someone above the waist.

Not at all, but the risks of something happening to you increase when you are drunk in such situations. I just think you need to be more mindful before/after European football matches. Poor guy, though.

Of course, Italian teams will now be banned/fined/punished in some way, just the same as if an English "fan" had stabbed an Italian.....
