Reading the telegraph - Labour frauds standing down at next election.

I guess they miss out on £££ and pensions if they quit early.

Because thats what a proportion do each general election. Many of the people standing down, were standing down anyway, and only a few are dodging the bullet of deselection or party expulsion.

I think a fair few Labour MPs are standing down because there is no chance of re-election anyway. If you are defending a majority of 37 (like some woman in the paper today), what is the point of even canvassing and thinking you have a hopes chance in hell for instance?

It'll be sad to see Anne Widdecombe stand down at the next General Election for no reason than she's moving on. Parliament will be a less colourful place without her.

Imagine brown will be telling them to wait - too many by-elections and he'd be challenged that he'd be just as well calling a general election as otherwise the cost to the taxpayer and the distruption to parliament will be too great....definitely Brown behind this

Standing down is the least they could do. Now they need to pay back and make up for their "mistakes".

Don't they get a bigger pension per full period of government?

They aren't all "Right Honourable caaaannntttsss".

Some are just "Honourable caaaannntttsss".

+1

It clearly wouldnt be in Brown's best interest to have any bye-elections right now would it. He'd lose the lot for sure i recon.

What I want to know is why are all these MP's who have clearly defrauded the system getting away with blaming it on the fees office and saying it was a genuine mistake? Whats the difference between these MP's, and benefit cheats (other than benefit cheats get to go to jail)?? Odds on a single MP doesnt get criminal charges brought against them out of all this. Seems there is a greater percentage of crooks in Parliment than your average inner city housing estate!!

Edit:: Oooooooh Mr Hague and I agree on this one it seems!! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8062640.stm
