I've not commented on this story at all, I don't think.

But, as an estranged father, I really understand the guys statement and he has my every sympathy.

On the last occasion he took Peter back to his mother, the boy started to scream, his father said.

He now realised that was because Baby Peter was going back to "a life of pain, fear and loneliness with no-one to care for or comfort him".
I wonder if Social Services had ever bothered to tell him their various findings and involvements before he'd died.

I'm glad she's sorry. She'll have some time to reflect on it now.

I've just read what this poor little soul went through and the injuries this bh inflicted on him.....and I'm fighting back tears of rage.
That a mother could allow harm to come to her child is bad enough but to inflict them and allow others to is beyond the pale. They say she could be out in 3 years, I only hope she comes out before that.....in a box.
I have a 4 year old grandson and I just want to hug the little bugger

'The boyfriend will also be sentenced for raping a two-year-old girl.'

Death penalty.

Aye.

Strikes me you can't ever let this person out, so take what it would cost to keep them in jail for ever, give it to some of the struggling children's charities, then take him somewhere and shoot him.

This whole case should revolt you, it should cause a gut reaction of horror. As a father of a 3 year old, I cannot, and do not, want to understand why this person did what he did and I would be quite happy to hear that he'd been put to death.

'Her 32-year-old boyfriend was jailed for 12 years for causing the death and for life for raping a two-year-old girl. He must serve at least 10 years.'

WTF - 12 years for killing one and life for raping the other... do our judiciary not get that we don't want these people back in society full stop? And how the hell does anyone give a lower sentance for killing someone than rape?

'Their lodger, Jason Owens, was jailed indefinitely for causing Baby Peter's death, to serve at least three years.'

I'm glad you didn't realise his sentences for death and for rape were running concurrently...

Unfortunately they couldn't pin the murder of Baby P for lack of evidence - so the charge was a much lower one.

That alone makes me feel physically sick. What the fk must it have taken to break a childs back?

As for the letter that woman wrote to the Judge...

If they hadn't been caught and hadn't killed the poor child then it would still be going on. They aren't sorry for their actions, only sorry they were caught.

It enrages me that people like this not only exist but seem to flourish in a hopelessly inadequate 'justice' system. These sentences don't even nearly fit the crime and any decent person would want to see them rot, and thats what a justice system should do give sentences that fit the crime and crimes don't come much worse than this one in my opinion.

ETA: I really feel for the boy's father and its further evidence that she is just pure evil, if she really didn't want the child she could have asked him to take him, but instead decided to keep him and torture him. Sick fkers I hope they burn in hell.

Somehow i get the feeling that the letter will have been dictated to her by her legal team and she isnt sorry at all. Maybe i'm a cynic (well actually there's no "maybe" in it) but i get the feeling that if she did actually write it,the letter was more to try and save her own sorry skin with a reduced sentence.

Nope.

"The boyfriend was given 12 years over Peter's death and life for raping a two-year-old girl. He must serve a minimum of 10 years."

Ten years for (essentially) murder (plus obvious signs of torture and denying the poor mite medical treatment) AND rape of a baby. A joke.

I grinned when I saw 'indefinitely', then my jaw dropped when they translated it into reality. In the US they'd probably get something more like 30 or 40 years, and they'd f'in deserve it...

Constrained by rules in terms of sentencing. If they stray outside of those rules, then Appeals can be lodged (hence the reason why sentences get reduced on Appeal).. Guess what bunch of self serving scum produce the sentencing guidelines.....

My thoughts exactly!

Reading about the injuries inflicted on the poor child has left me seething and speechless, I simply can't begin to believe adults would do that to a defenceless child.

Now that they have been found guilty I would have no qualms dragging those scumbags from their cells and stringing them up. Infact I reckon it would be doing them a favour, scum of the lowest order furious
