Got home yesterday to a leaflet from the Labour party urging me to vote for them. Would love to post the whole thing up as it's a work of fantasy, but a few quotes from it (sorry it's a bit long);-

Picture on the front is of a white bloke, black female and mixed race kid rolleyes

"Labour is the only party on the side of working families. It is GB's leadership that will get us through these tough times. Labour stands for ordinary working people nationally and in Europe"

"We acted to prevent the collapse of the banks and to stop businesses closing and thousands of people losing jobs. For Britain to stay ahead we will develop a low carbon economy that creates thousands of jobs in green technology and advanced manufacturing"

"We are taking action to bring in a points based system for immigration. This will help reduce overall numbers of immigrants and make sure we only attract those with skills we need. Migrants will be expected to support themselves, learn English, pay taxes and obey the law."

"Under Labour every neighbourhood in England and Wales has its own neighbourhood police team to keep communities safe."

"Labour has made Britain the first country in the world to put long term carbon reduction targets into law. We are helping people make their homes more energy efficient. By making Britain a world leader in green technology and industry we can bring new skills and jobs."

"Labour believes in giving help to support families through difficult times. We are giving protection to help families stay in their homes if they suffer a temporary fall in income.

And because we know times are tough we are giving people a little extra in their pockets. We have increased child benefit and child tax cedit. This year basic rate taxpayers will receive a £145 tax cut and we have cut VAT saving families an average £275 off household bills a year"

"We aim to create 400,000 new environmental jobs over the next eight years - the sector is predicted to employ 1.3 million by 2017"

Then the slagging off of the opposition bit...

"DC's first priority in this recession is a huge tax cut for 3000 millionaires while making big cuts to public services that could hit the police, charities and road/rail improvements"

"The Lib Dems have repeatedly voted against Labours measures for tougher penalties and punishments for offenders, they are soft on crime"

"The Tories have promised massive cuts that would threaten key local services like transport, police and schools"

Patricia Hewitts office is about 500 yards from my house and I'm sorely tempted to shove this leaflet back through her letterbox suitably annotated rage

Basically

We promise to tax the st out of you and spunk it all on bks you don't need and kitting out our London Apartments in the style to which we'd like to become accustomed.

Just vote for someone else. That's the best thing you can do.
