The one eyed, scottish, mouth breathing stroke victim now says that her behaviour was "totally unacceptable". She will repay £13,332.

Yet she is still Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government.

How can this be?

"Two weekends ago Miss Blears, wrote a newspaper article accusing Mr Brown of “lamentable” communication failures, greatly angering the Prime Minister. She also appeared to ridicule Mr Brown’s appearance on YouTube in which he outlined a plan to reform parliamentary expenses, writing: “YouTube if you want to. But it is no substitute for knocking on doors or setting up a stall in the town centre.” "

Blears? She's hot. I would.

And that Beckett chick. She's lovely.

I'm quite partial to that Hillary Benn as well. She's hot.

Blears won't resign but she will be fired after the June 4 elections along with Smith. She's dead woman walking but it would not serve Brown well to fire her ahead of June 4.

Smiler.

You know how this can be, we all do. The system is bent; they look after their own until their personal needs outweigh the subordinates circumstances; at which point they are thrown overboard.

She should be nicked for fraud by an independent (rolleyes) police force.

I have no trime for her perosnally but she doesn't appear to have committed any "legal" fraud so I don't think there will be any charges brought against her.

Morally, of course, her behaviour is obviously questionable - along with all the others who pushed their allowance and expense claims to then limits.

It's just a tit for tat response though isn't it? It's not actually a holier than thou approach that the self serving scum in chief is taking.

As I said on the other thread, Gormless Brown describes Hazel Blears' expenses claim as "totally unacceptable behaviour, but she has not broken the law, she has not broken the rules of the House of Commons." He has also said that any Labour MP found breaking the rules will be slung out.

So to paraphrase, any Labour MP found behaving in a totally unacceptable way will keep their job.

Do you think he stands in front of the mirror and slaps himself in the forehead when he sees himself reported as saying this kind of nonsense? Surely he must have advisors who tell him that every time he opens his slack jaw he just comes out with more and more reasons why he should be out of Number 10 post haste?

Is there a minister that doesn't behave in a totally unacceptable way?

This is not just about expenses, they meddle in every single aspect of our lives yet seem to have a Reverse-Midas touch.

Everything they try and implement fails, goes over-budget, has to be rehashed etc and they STILL maintain they would be worth c£65k or whatever the hell a minister gets paid in the real world.

The only thing that amazes me about this fiasco is that the public are actually suprised!.

Self governing MP's was is and always will be a complete recipe for disaster and abuse.

Approaching this from a diffrent angle how many of us could honestly say that we would not take advantage of the perks of the job offered to Mp's. In the real world if we were all Mp's I think quite a few of us would be looking at being for the high jump.

.
MPS are the highest authority (in practice) in the land, if they cannot be trusted to govern themselves why should they be trusted to run the country?

I don't think we'd be for the high jump if we were just doing what the personnel dept told us was normal practice, which seems to be the case here. Of course we can make our own decisions about what we think is right which is what some have done.
I can remember, when very young, making my first expenses claim, which my manager wouldn't approve until he'd added a bunch of expenses that I hadn't incurred but which he and everyone else always claimed for.

This is exactly why Gordon Brown singled her out. No other reason. Gordon Brown has no understanding of or capacity to take anyone criticising him. He doesn't give a crap about her expenses. The man is a pig.

There's an old saying, isn't there, about absolute power and corruption. Brown allowed the bankers to govern themselves and we saw where that went. The present expenses system has been operating for decades, and I suppose it's only the FOI act that has forced it's reform now.

The fundamental difference is that your manager and by inference all his staff were committing a fraud. You would have been prosecuted had the Directors or Inland Revenue found out. Also these are our "lawmakers" FFS, aren’t we entitled to expect basic honesty and good character from them?
