I am amazed how Luton South MP Margaret Moran has managed to avoid much of the flak for her blatant expenses shennanigans. Her first reponse was that she had done nothing wrong and that the allegations were probably "actionable".

Rather than taking legal action, she has now offered to pay it back.

And now in a rather surreal twist Esther Rantzen is threatening to stand in opposition at the next election...

You couldn't make this up.

I've already stated my views on this bh. I want her jailed.

The other Luton MP Kelvin Hopkins (Lab), in whose constituency I live, is about the only MP to come out of this with an enhanced reputation.

I too would love to see her humbled.

And I live in the same constituency - Kelvin is a decent and honourable man, and has been for the 30years he has been in politics.

I can see media folk looking to fill the vacuum being opened up as traditional politicians fall out of favour - the Martin Bell/Arnold Schwarznegger effect as it were.

I'm not sure if this is altogether a good thing.

Good on Ester if she goes ahead with it I reckon. Would be nice to see someone taking action instead of just talking about it.

Unfortunately, I don't see media luvvies being any more effective (or honest) than traditional politicians. Robert Kilroy Silk anyone?

Being elected simply because "I am not one of them" is not good for democracy.

Look up Stephen Hammond, my local (Tory) MP.

Has not taken any Additional Costs Allowance whatsoever and was 545th (out of 645) lowest claimant overall last year.

Morans own local party are now making noises. I think there is a fair chance they will deselect her anyway.

Should you need a second homes allowance if your constituency is Wimbledon? I don't know which MPs qualify for the allowance but I assume it's only for those that live at least a certain distance from the commons.
Personally I think the problem has been caused by requiring MPs to provide receipts, and I think they should just be given a straightforward fixed second home allowance, if they're not London area based, and that's it.

He took the London allowance and isn't entitled to second homes allowance. Looks like he took what was available to him. London MP's should all be in the top 100 as they are not entitled to the SHA.

Outer London qualifies, inner London doesn't.
