I don't know how far this story has made it out of the South West, it's not been reported on National news.

Tragically an 11 year old boy was killed when a ford Focus mounted the pavement and hit a group of people.

The driver ran off and Police have been searching for the owner of the car for 9 days now, yesterday she was found living/sleeping in a barn and charged with various offences. Inc' Death by dangerous driving, driving without insurance and failing to stop.

BBC Story Here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/bristol/8044985...

Seems like madness to me, did she think she was going to live the rest of her life on the run? Surely going into hiding has cemented her guilt and added a few years to what will surely be jail time.

The only thing I can think of was that she was drunk and was trying to avoid being breathalized at the scene.

I have heard that she has a history of mental illness.

How much this has influenced events, if it is even true, is anyones guess.

Bloke in Sheffield did a runner after killing his passenger and seriously injuring two others, driving a hired car.

He was in Court last week after being missing for several months.

I can kind of understand it actually. To be so shocked at the realisation of what she'd done that she needed to run away and not face it.

Such people generally hand themselves in once they've sorted it out in their head though.

To be honest I was a little surprised she was found alive as well.

'Driving otherwise than in accordance with her licence'.

Does that mean she probably had only a provisional licence? Presumably so if she is charged with being uninsured.

Not sure about the 'failing to stop' though as apparently she wrenched the front suspension off the car (no mean feat). On thing it had to do was come to a shuddering halt.

What a mess.

Could be driving a manual on a auto license, or other such discrepancy but yeah, most likely driving on a provisional.

I think she ran off on foot? Maybe 'failing to stop' covers this as well.

For christs sake.

This is a thread about a driving incident, can't we just leave it in General Gassing.

Oh I give-up.

Absolutely ... a kid has been killed in a driving incident ... it needs discussing in an easily accesible open forum.

WTF has "News, Politics & Economics" got to do with it?

I suppose it's anyone's guess what was going through her head when she left the scene but this definately warrants jail time. Bet she either gets off (if you can when having caused a child's death) or gets sectioned.

I know how you feel.

But where does this thread go? General Gassing, News & PE or SP&L?

It's all got a bit stupid on PH.

WTF has "General Gassing" got to do with it? It's in the news, in fact it is a headline, so surely relevant? Its easily accesible to anyone with eyesight as long as they've been registered for a couple of weeks and can therefore post outside of GG. What's the problem, do you really want to see 5000 replies saying "SHE SHOULD HANG" etc? What would another forum be able to contribute? It isn't about car issues, nothing to do with auto manufacturers, it's second hand information linked from the BBC, if it belongs anywhere else it should be in S,P&L.

The car related part of the story is incidental, unless we're going to discuss the merits of her car choice and how she could have avoided the poor child if she had a lighter car with better brakes and more visibility then it is null and void in GG, it is NEWS. Should Princess Diana and JFK threads all be moved to GG?

They way people drive is discussed all the time in GG, that is nothing to do with 'auto manufacturers' neither is cyclists behaviour or questions about insurance companies poor service but they stay in GG as well.

To be honest as Pricess Diana died in car crash caused by a drunk driver in a specialist car a thread discussing her death IMO should be in GG.

It isn't a first person witness discussion though is it? If someone cuts you off and you make a thread about it, its not (inter)national news, its general gassing. This was a nationwide manhunt for a few hours, and its on the national news right this second. That's my opinion, everyone will hear about it via TV, Radio and print press, if someone gets their news from GG then are they really mentally fit enough to respond to this thread? Its a discussion forum seperated into categories, I can't think of anything that has been lost by it being moved to another section to be honest. Anything that could be said in GG can be said here.

Edited to add: Sorry for the disrail of your thread, my personal thoughts on the matter are as those of any other sane person, but in terms of the forum change around, I was one of those who voted against, But I can now see the merits of certain threads being appropriately categorised. I can also appreciate that you don't feel the same way, after all, it's your thread.

Well I didn't realise it was on the national news C4 and BBC didn't cover it tonight or this last week, I have only seen it on local news. So was bringing the story to the attention of the masses and also attempting to start a discussion on 'leaving the scene of an accident' with this being an extreme case.

To be honest I can see some merits of the new system (less reposts and less st) but lots of interesting threads started by many people are being shoved into dead-end barely viewed forums and struggling to get 10 replies, whereas in the old days of the GG/P&P these would be good multi-page debates.

About two days ago the third page of P&P was at least 4/5 moved threads. I just thought this was crap and also there seems to be inconsistency in the thread moving. and some threads have been moved multiple times or days and days after they were started. Just seems like moving for the sake of moving.

Anyway back on topic does anyone know for sure if the women drove away from the scene or left on foot for sure? This was unclear from the news.
