A man in his 60s shot dead by police in West Sussex was upset that his sick wife was facing going into a nursing home, a close friend has said.

Mervyn Tussler was shot by marksman following a three-hour standoff at a retirement complex in Fernhurst on Friday afternoon. etc etc etc

Tragic. But you cannot go waving guns around at police (or indeed anyone).

Yes I agree, a very tragic incident for PC Rambo.

Cue compo claim for stress.

Whatever happened to all the Tasers which were going to be issued to plod so that non-lethal force could be used in these situations?

Or are they just being kept charged up for the Saturday night drunks?

Normal person speak = realists.
Copper speak = idiots.

What amazes me is how rude, insulting and abusive the coppers on here are. It really shows them in their true colours.

What amazes me is how someone sufferring an Identity crisis is still at large in the community, does your wife pretend to be the Duchess of Cornwall as well?

And you are really an American colony in the Pacific?

When someone is waving a gun about do you think its fair to ask a copper to walk close to the possible lunatic to fire a taser or stand further off and protect their own and the publics lives?

Dont answer, as I already know what your response will be as its blatant in your OP.

You do not wave a gun around at the police under any circumstance and expect a happy outcome.

And yet Mr. Fino couldn't work that out for himself.....
Perhaps he's working on a Taser with a 60ft range.

I agree with Rich on this. The chap was waving a gun around, upset or not that's a real big no no. The outcome is sad but I guess only to be expected given the situation. It's easy to blame the cop but how would the average joe handle a situation like that.

What a surprise. Yet another crap thread in a serious forum section from our resident village idiot.

The Police have a duty to protect the public and themselves from people who might just start shooting. If someone continues to wave a gun about when they've been warned numerous times of the consequnces if they don't, then there's a good chance someone's going to get shot.

Sad, but he had enough of a chance to walk away alive and, for all we know, maybe he didn't want to?

The 'Duke' will be along in a second to tell us how the Police fitted him up and shot the Officers vest themselves!

Surely not, surely in reality there was no bullet in the vest and it's just been made up.

Four shots? I am surprised they didn't shoot him quicker.

Interestingly, I'd have thought that as soon as the gun is discharged, then the target can be shot?

Good job the officer had his bullet proof vest on and the old fellow didn't go for a headshot.
