Under the counter Ciggarettes
Discussion
Cant find a story on this, was in todays Sun, but apparently they are trying to bring a law in, where ciggies are to be kept out of sight under the counter, to stop people/kids smoking?
How the fk is that going to work, still going to walk in and ask for your favourite brand of smokes?

I thought these plans were shelved due to the potential to kill off the taxes?

I cant remember the whole article, but something along the lines that, kids are supporting the idea, now please correct me if I am wrong, but when the fk did kids get a say in how the country was run? Where is there ability to vote on such things?
Pointless article, and a pointless idea

Surely if they are kept under the counter it will eventually provide the following annoying conversation which will result in a large queue of people gathering behind you.
Customer: Can I have 20 Malboro Lights please?
Server: Sorry we don't have any of those.
Customer: Oh right...can I have 20 B&H then instead please?
Server: Sorry we've run out of those too.
Customer: What exactly have you got on the basis I can't see them!
Server: Sorry I couldn't possibly read out the brands as it may encourage youngsters in the queue to smoke.
Customer: What about two packets of 10 instead?
Server: On which type?
Customer: Either, I don't mind.
Server: What were the first brand you asked for again?
Customer: Aaaaaaargh (nicotene-starved rage ensues)
Etc, etc.....
It will happen, trust me. You can sometimes end up having virtually the same conversation with a shopkeeper even when you can see what they have available.
Do people not realise that the more you try and stop young people from doing things it makes them want to do it more. I didn't start smoking because I seriously thought I would enjoy it. I did it because I was rebelling and I wasn't allowed to do it, the same with drinking under age and having boyfriends when my parents told me I shouldn't.
It is utter madness.

At the other end of the spectrum, officials in China are being forced to smoke more cigarrettes to raise more taxes.
Hmm. I read they were being forced to smoke Chinese brands. Quite a different thing to what you've suggested. The one I read had a bit of both

It is just another part of the puritanical agenda of this government. There has been a 'consultation' about this, which conveniently left out the opinion of the Tobacco Retailers Association responses and put great weight to the opinions of organisations like ASH, who happen to be largely government funded. How the fk is that going to work, still going to walk in and ask for your favourite brand of smokes?
More details here and here.
