At least two people were killed when a car crashed into the crowd at a parade involving Queen Beatrix and the Dutch royal family, reports say.

Dutch police told the BBC it appeared to have been a deliberate attack.

All over the news here in the Netherlands (as you would expect) and its very sad on a day that most Dutchies consider one of the most important national holidays.

I personally hate Queens day but I fear that this is taking it too far!
You hate a national holiday? Obviously you prefer to work, you are German AICMFP.

Shocking, good job the car stopped on the gates of the memorial as it was still going a fair lick. It'd have finished up in a big crowd otherwise. I wonder what the motive was.

Do they know if it actually was an attack or what? It looked pretty beat up before it entered the crowd...

He had probably dropped a euro coin and was frantically looking for it while driving.

What was amazing was the policing level. If that had happened in the US, the driver would have been looking down the barrel of 300 guns within seconds (assuming he hadn't been shot as he drove through); in the UK he would have been pounced on in seconds; in Holland a copper on a push bike wheeled himself over to apprehend the driver.

Wouldn't it be nice to live in such a relaxed country!?

Isn't the driver mortally injured?

If so, will we ever find out what the motive was? (If any, he could have just gone nuts?)

Grim photos in this morning's Metro.

I'm not squeamish, but I really don't think we need 'action' photos of people being run down and of the driver bleeding to death. Especially in a paper which a lot of children read on the way to school.

I know. I'm getting old.
