I have just been watching the news over the past few days and obviously it is full of Swine Flu doom and gloom.

This got me thinking....

As soon as the media leave a topic people tend to forget about it. The "Global Economic Crisis" (as they like to call it) hasn't been mentioned in nearly a week.

I guess my point is if the media did not broadcast anything about the economy would it get back to normal quicker? Discuss.

Yes correct.

e.g. Robert Peston and his over reporting of the issue right at the start.

I thought so. So although the media try an "help" by keeping us informed on world affairs. Infact if it wasn't broadcast most of these situations would never develop to the extent that they have.

Without a shadow of doubt.

Remember acid rain, the hole in the ozone layer, SARS, bird flu, they were all going to be the end of man-kind/the world. None of them did, or even get vaguely close to that, I suspect the recession and Swine Flu will be the same.

Debt and the interest on it continues to grow even if you don't discuss it.

The good thing is now they've got something else to sink their teeth into things might improve. I know it's daft as they're only reporting by I feel it never helps anything to keep talking about it.

Exactly. Keep on telling everyone how bad it is and it makes people think the worst at all times.

I have a job. I have a roof over my head. I have my health. I'm happy.

I beleive in freedom of speech, but IMO, the media are the scum of this country.

Only last night, the news headlines mentioned "first death outside Mexico", then in the detailed bit in a much less dramatic voice "but they had just come back from Mexico City".

Also the Daily Express headline on Tues were (in big letters) "Killer Flu Is Here!"

Really fks me off!!

If the news was

"everything is good, nothing to see here, move along please"

Then we wouldn't really bother wasting our time buying papers and watching the news. Therefore, the news people need a good disaster on a weekly basis to keep us actually "interested".

Next week, MMGW will be back on the agenda, this will then be replaced by House prices, this will be replaced by Swine Flu/Bird Flu/A slightly sore neck etc..

I stopped watching the news a few years ago. That's not to say I don't know what's going on, as it's kind of hard to avoid it; but frankly I don't miss it! smile

BTW who is Robert Peston (seriously)?

Did you see the article that the Daily Mail did about Peston and his 'friends'? Made for interesting reading. Ok, its the Daily Mail and clearly they have a big problem with the Evil BBC. But, it was good to see that Peston isn't quite as rosy and clean-cut as he and the BBC might suggest. There are rumours that he is just a government stooge for the publication of bad-news how the they want it reported.

All a bit 'big brother' and controlling for me, clearly too organised to actually succeed! But makes you question the news as pushed down our throats by the media.

And yes, he's a tit.
