Mexico City is currently being ravaged by a new form of flu that has crossed over from pigs into the general population. 1000 people infected and 68 dead so far. Travel has been curbed to reduce the chances of the virus spreading.

The W.H.O are having an emergency meeting to come up with measures to tackle it.

Blimey.

If pigs could fly...

...would that be a bird flu epidemic?

I think it's fair to say a disease will come along soon to sort the worlds population out. That or a big War.

I have just read somewhere (and I am blowed if I can remember where!) but apparently this strain of flu is the same as the Spanish Flu that wiped out a few people during 1918.

...& more people died of Spanish Flu than on the battlefields of WW1. Terrible time to have lived.

Part of the same family (H1N1). Bird flu was H5N1, and H2G2 was a radio series.

Don't we have a nasty flu epidemic/pandemic every 40 odd years??

Originally everyone thought it would be Avian Flu based, but this seems to have appeared rather quickly.

I used to work with a communicable disease specialist in 2004 and he was saying then that we were overdue our big flu problem.

I've not seen the news but I bet that was just made up by sky so they can wet themselves and have rolling 24hour coverage.
