Why isn't the UK boycotting this too?

But surely boycotting is just being racist?
If people don't take part, it is just pointless.
I'm glad UK and France will be attending.
Why should they boycott? Because one person who is taking part denies the holocaust is taking part in it, what about everyone else?
Hypothetical case:If people don't take part, it is just pointless.

You're caucasian. Your wife/best-mate or whoever is a black African.
You're sitting at a table in the pub, having a beer with some friends/acquaintances and one of them keeps going on about how noble the KKK are, how slavery never happened and that Africa is full of idle bds and they should be left to starve/die of easily curable diseases or be slaughtered in genocide.
Maybe the first few times you hear it happen you debate/argue/get in a fight but if it keeps happening every time you meet do you still go to the same pub to sit with same people?

We are talking about nations that HAVE TO talk to each other. You can ignore those people in the pub, not a country. You're caucasian. Your wife/best-mate or whoever is a black African.

So if there is absolutely no talks going on. What has been gained?
Nothing.
So you would rather nothing happened, than trying to get Iran to change their position.

I'm not a jew but it pi$$es me off that anti-semitism is the only form of accepted racism.
IN Germany/Austria it can be jail time..................Should we attend? Well, if the conference is purportedly about racism then yes, to put across the view that denial of the holocaust is stupidity (I don't believe it to be "racist" though)..
Someone just tried having a pop at Dinner Jacket!! Chucked something at him! Splendid.

Boycotting is the worst they could do though.
Surely the best COA is to attend the conference and then berate Dinnerjacket in person for his ridiculous comments.
Argue his points!
Not attending just allows him to say what he wants with no rebutle.

Because it will likely be a conference based upon either lies or hypocrisy; much like the Kyoto cr@p people cry about. If people don't take part, it is just pointless.

I understand your thoughts. However, the Swiss have him as the guest of honor, he will have the bully pulpit. That and the media spin will not showcase such counterarguments. Then, all that is left is the legitimacy afforded Dinnerjacket by having all of those officials attending his rantings.Surely the best COA is to attend the conference and then berate Dinnerjacket in person for his ridiculous comments.

This guy is mocked by many of his own countrymen; hopefully, this will add to their disdain for him. The Mullahs choose the candidates the people can vote for, so in the end, change won't come short of another revolution."Diplomats walk out during hate-speach"

Unfortunately, if we are to see a radical change in attitude from Iran, there will need to be a coup. I dont see that happening soon though.
It was just really nice watching that Video, as each diplomat walked out!!! Great show of solidarity, and hopefully will start to set a precedent with these guys.

You assume they are open to a change in position? Do you really believe that Iran would go into such a conference with an open mind? Do you believe that they are not going to such an event with an agenda and an specific aim in mind? Don't be gullible.
So you think the only point of this conference is for one guy to speak.Don't be so gullible a listen to the media. There are hundreds of other low level things going on, and yes they do achieve things.

perhaps you are right, I have just learned to lower my expectations of such things involving such people. I will be happy to be proven wrong though.
The problem is if there is no one else there, the only thing that will happen is all the press will be filming Irans cheesy dictator. Absolutely nothing will be gained. So boycotting is worse than attending.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
