I watched an embedded video on a different thread and was shocked to find Barrack Obama saying that Usa invented the car presumably in reference to the bail outs of GM and the like, it's on the video at 0:31 secs on (if I manage to link it correctly as I'm a bit computer inept)

Video

Gary

Edited to add that this is not an April fool joke

aholes, they were still playing cowboys an' injuns during the (british) industrial revolution. Wasn't it Benz who invented the first petrol automobile?

Typical yanks, think they invented everything and found the enigma machine/won WWII/other achievement by another country.

Production lines had already been running in other industries way before Ford ever used them for his cars. In fact, Ford wasn't even the first CAR manufacturer to use a production line method. Theis is usually atributed to Ransom E Olds (Oldsmobile) who was, of course, also an American.

Therefore, although production lines weren't invented in the US and car production lines weren't invented by Ford, it is generally accepted that the mass production of the automobile did begin in America.

NOPE!! The first accredited production line goes to a steam traction engine manufacturer in Norfolk (can't remember the name dammit!)in the mid to late 1800s.. Ford DID however do it first on a large scale!

First combustion engined vehicle was patented by Samuel Cox in the 1850s and drove it up Shooters Hill London (gas engine).
Benz (the plagiarist) borrowed (read stole)the idea of a simple carburetteur and then managed to build the first petrol powered combustion engined vehicle (tricycle, NOT a car)

Perhaps he didn't mean literally 'invented' the automobile, perhaps he meant in the wider context of mass mobility and the car as a way if life. The guy is getting pretty well known now for his Tamarian style speeches.

They also descovered Britain, had an empire which covered 2/3rds of the planet, sent criminals to Australia (also descovered it), invented the Jet engine, have the best Army/Navy/Air Force in the world and are also the biggest, most arrogant aholes to grace the face of this planet......well one of those is right.

Ford were the first to put it all together and do the whole thing from rocks and dust on a boat right through to a car rolling out the parking lot at the other end, all on one site.

Ford don't claim to have invented either the car or production lines, well at least the rouge plant tour didn't. Obama on the other hand, well enough said.

He developed the theory of the specializeation of labour, where one person who does the same job all the time will become more efficent at doing that job that if they build the entire product themselves.

So it is essentially the theory of a production line, whether he created and actual physical production line i am not to sure.
