Postmaster sacked after insisting customers speak English
Discussion
God forbid people speak english in an english speaking country.
Good for him.
Sorry.. a little bitter about feeling the need to learn a second language in my own country because some people can't control the border.
To make myself clear.. speaking poor english because you're learning english is one thing. It those who REFUSE to speak english that annoy me.

Indeed. Although did you hear him interviewed on radio 4 the other day. His own English was not actually that great!Totally misreported story this.
He was sacked for not doing his job properly, which is fair enough. He's simple counter staff (a temp at that), he's not policy making management. He was paid to do a job which he didnt do. I dont think many on the PH massive can support that.
His stand on who he would and wouldnt serve is a different matter. I applaud his attempts to encourage people to speak English, but he shouldnt point blank refuse to serve them.
On the point of who he decided to serve and who he didnt, he made it quite clear that he refused to serve long standing customers who he knew, who in his opinion were taking whatever they could from this country, but refusing to integrate. If some 'forigner' (as in tourist) came in he would serve them. If some regular who he knows has been in the country claiming various benifits over a protracted period of time came in and refused to speak English (because they cant be bothered), he wouldnt serve them.
I fully support his ideals.
