Interesting. Anti-terrorism laws being used to seize the assets of Icelandic businesses in the UK in revenge for the Icelandic banks "losing" UK Government money.

This stinks.

Do you think Brown would have ordered the seizing of American or Russian assets?

I think not.

This is getting very nasty. Roll on the election. We're fked. But whilst we're fked at least we could behave decently.

I think there is justification to invade Iceland. It may kickstart Britains manufacturing sector again and get a bit of pride back.

Legislation designed to control an Islamic nutter, hiding in a cave in Pakistan is actually being used against the population of Iceland.

Viva the War on Terror.

It's not a shock, we all knew that these laws with hugely ranging powers would be abused. Only fools trust a Govt to do as it says.

According to the lefty BBC the US economy only recovered from the Wall Street crash of 1929 after adopting Keynsian economics and spending a huge volume of National Debt on ... WWII.

Perhaps "Prudent" Brown fancies a nice war to get Britain back on it's feet. Seems the Afghanis are a bit hard - maybe Icelanders will be softer.

You get all that st about

"It's a global problem and requires a global response"

"we have to work together and co-ordinate our central banks to solve the problems"

followed by

"Give our fking money back or we'll smash your fking face in. Yeah and we want all your sweets too."

General Election. As soon as possible.

I'm still trying to work out whether this is a weak or strong reaction from the Government - half of me thinks WTF and the other half thinks well done confused

This isnt how grown ups do international relations with friendly countries.

I think Brown is out of order. He wants council money paidd back so lefties and greenies can continue cutting bin collections, spying on us and looking after their own intrests. Meanwhile Iceland (a friendly country over the last god knows how many years) face the complete colapse of its social infrastructure. Icelands financial market supplies 75% of its GDP annually and now its feked.

How we treat friends in times of crisis is tells us a lot about ourselves. The very fact that the government should have seen Icelandic banks predicaments and looked after the money better is being smokescreened by this kind of retoric.

We should be looking for resignations in THIS country for this rediculous situation.

As far as I'm aware no one in Iceland held a gun against the heads of the people who was inveting public money in these banks.

This is Brown's Falklands. Sorry to say, but this is a godsend to him politically.

As long as he can hide the tax implications... (which he's admittedly very good at, but £16k each is a big too big)

You're assuming he's not going to sink into an ever increasing black hole of financial loss and ruin.

My real concern is that when this bunch of morons are finally kicked out, there will be nothing left worth saving.

The difference is that Maggie successfully retook the Falklands.

I don't see how Brown can get himself out of this. As the situation gets worse, everyone will be looking for someone to blame.

I think your right there, things are going to get a whole lot worse before they get better.
