9/11 Drone Display Twin Towers.
Discussion
I'm very impressed...
That must have been gut wrenching for the relatives, survivors and people watching in the area.
A good use of AI.
Presumably it is managing the swarm of 2977 drones.
Each one representing an unfortunate victim of the atrocity.

A wonderful memorial . A friend of ours was a teacher at the UN school just down the street from the towers and the number of children that were never collected and became orphans that day was heartbreaking .I watched some footage on YT last night , having seen it many times over the last 25 yrs , still as shocking now as it was on the day .

You are totally right, it is still almost unbelievable, one of those few moments of remembering exactly where I was and what I was doing.I was on holiday in Aruba that day, so in the same USA eastern time zone when it all happened. I worked for a UK subsidiary of Marsh for 33 years and 296 work colleagues were killed as a result of the plane that targeted the North Tower. Watching on TV that day was truly awful. 9/11 each year is a date for me to always spend some quiet time in contemplation. I could say so much more.....

I wasnt directly affected as you were but as a fellow Insurance bod working for RSA at the time when on the phone to a broker and him saying a plane had flown in to the WTC I didnt think too much about it as I knew planes had flown into tall buildings in the past in error such as Empire State Building.R.
But that short time later speaking to another broker and them telling me a plane had flown into the WTC and then us establishing it was a second plane in thr second building that was a horrendous oh f
k moment. At the time, the RSA internet was ridiculously bad so it was hard to understand anything more than snippets.Im really sorry that you lost colleagues. Still unbelievably sad.
Yep, what an incredible display.
25 years, I can imagine the security services have been fairly occupied in the lead up to this anniversary.
I was about to start a thread when I saw this one. Where were you 25 years ago?
I was 21, on my first (non-family) foreign holiday with a girlfriend in Gran Canaria, sitting outside a bar having bc some food and a beer when the TV was tuned to a Spanish language breaking news broadcast. Had mobile phones but no internet access. Hard to comprehend and travel back was a complete s

First time I've seen drones used for anything meaningful.
Few moments of peace and reflection.

Watching some of the footage of the day and it hasn't lost any of its shock factor.
Likely the defining act of our generations.
I listened to a transcript of the firefighter command centre liasing with 911 call handlers and various different firefighter units that were in both towers before they came down. Incredibly professional despite the total chaos. Even though I've watched most of the documentaries it still feels like there's lots of stories that haven't been told.

That's sad to read - an incredibly tough time for all of you to go through.R.
The whole thing still leaves me feeling very numb. I try not to see any of the video footage - I watched it on the day. It's still very upsetting to think of how those people died on the planes and in the towers. Awful.
I wonder what the total number of related deaths is? Obviously there's the ~3000 in the towers and planes that died on the day, but there must be thousands that have developed cancers etc afterwards due to the dust/air quality?
ETA: Wiki suggests over 5,000 have died since due to medical complications related to the attacks.

Yes, more than died on the day itself. It's the silent part of the tragedy that the US has been sweeping under the carpet for years.Mayor Mamdani has already taken action on this to get people the support they need for this and more transparency.

You can add on all the servicemen that died in the subsequent wars on terror, plus the non-combatants who had the misfortune to be born in Afghanistan or Iraq. Then you have the knock-on effect of ISIS and their victims. There will be countless more who died with 9/11 as significant part in the chain of events leading to their demise.ETA: Wiki suggests over 5,000 have died since due to medical complications related to the attacks.

Hm. I was working for a UK bookseller which had offices at one of the lesser WTC addresses on world trade centre plaza.25 years, I can imagine the security services have been fairly occupied in the lead up to this anniversary.

tshow I recall going into a meeting room which had a tv on just after the second tower had been hit. Apart from utter shock I recall a lot of focus on the NY office and people trying to get through to them but pretty much all comms were down.
Fortunately they were all okay but it hit hard at the time especially once the towers started coming down.
History is defined by all sorts of small scale events but even on the day it just felt like it was such an era defining event where everything you knew and understood was swept away in the space of a morning.
And so it proved.
