Universally liked and respected. Not only a great writer and singer, but also a an outstanding philanthropist and business person.

She will be missed.

Just saw that. Very sad

She was far more than a big chest, a very funny and witty lady

May she rest in peace

Quite sad about this, not a huge fan of her music but she had a decent moral compass and was big on philanthropy.

Ahhh … one you felt would always be around and such an icon.

Sad indeed.

Seems that the death of her husband in March (after nearly 60 years of marriage) didn't help her health.

It took a lot of money to look that cheap, she used to say. What a gal.

Gutted frown One of the best act to tread the Glasto legends stage, what a performance that was.

Generous, witty, talented, not many like her.

One of the most universally liked people out there I think. Shocked to hear she's gone, but I guess at 80 you can't take any day for granted. RIP.

Very sad. A wonderful, wonderful lady. Immensely talented, clever, witty and a true philanthropist. She brought so much joy and goodness to the world. If only there were more like her.

Genuinely sad to hear this, wasn't a great fan of her music but she did some good films and she certainly didn't fk about when it came to her charitable works, her Imagination Library has donated over 200 million books to boost literacy in under fives.

You had to admire her. Allegedly wrote the whole score for 9 to 5 in a weekend. Warm, witty, and genuine, reminds me of Joan Rivers dying, just assumed they’d go on forever
