Behaviour guidelines for life in UK
Discussion
I've seen this mentioned in a couple of threads but this is utterly insane.
Understanding behaviours and expectations in the UK: a guide for asylum seekers
Literally a Government booklet to politely remind anyone coming to the UK as an asylum seeker that whilst they're wondering around unsupervised would they please remember women have rights here too so you can't control their behaviour, domestic abuse is unacceptable, we have a thing called consent so please no raping, and please don't abuse or harass anyone in public.
This is absolutely bats

Bats
t.
t that the government have acknowledged there is a problem?or bats
t that we are allowing in people who need to be told this stuff?or bats
t that it is racist and unnecessary?or bats
t that they think that reading a pamphlet will undo or rewrite the cultural norms for certain people?Bluevanman said:
Seems sensible to me,other cultures have different ideas of what is acceptable but it just highlights the difficulties of multiculturalism in a country like ours
Agreed but there's so much political capital to be made from it I'm surprised they've done it. If you rape someone it could affect your asylum claim. JTFC.
How about if you rape someone we'll be putting you on dinghy.

Exactly. In one respect I think it shouldn't be needed but it might even help when prosecuting someone or turning down an application.I reckon there are probably some British people who should be required to read it though.

“different ideas of what is acceptable” = understatement of the yearPresume this guidance is available translated to Arabic
When I worked in Saudi in some neanderthal town near the border with Yemen, we were given a piece of A4 with does and don'ts.
amongst the warnings about covering skin and don't indulge in homosexual antics, the line that still chills me......
Don't go to the town square on Fridays as that is when beheadings and limb removals are performed.
If a foreigner is seen in the crowd, they will be pushed to the front in order to be splashed by the blood.

This was in the 1990s. Maybe it's a more enlightened place these days.

I am willing to bet that all of those rules were to protect you from the local population and none of them were to protect the local population from you.amongst the warnings about covering skin and don't indulge in homosexual antics, the line that still chills me......

Govt will be handing these pamphlets out to limit the possibility of newcomers just shrugging their shoulders and using the legal defence of gosh, I had no idea non consent/child rape/sexual harassment etc was a problem here.

Funny you say that as I was struck down with some illness on one of my visits there and whilst shivering and sweating in my hotel room a guy rang my room phone and was speaking in Arabic. I said I'm English and I think you've called the wrong room.
So the safety sheet expressed no homosexual practises and also never refuse an offer of coffee from a stranger!?
This guy on the phone swapped to English and with a leer said 'Engleesh eh! why don't you come up to my room for a coffee'

Doesn’t surprise me it’s been published, spend a bit of time really living in other countries & cultures and differences become very apparent & pretty surprising really.
I think Everyone considers their own environment to be normal & morally acceptable, even in more developed countries there are sometimes considerable variations on things like alcohol & age of consent for sexual activities.
Who knows it might put some undesirable characters off if they read the “holiday brochure” first.
(Some areas abroad now have rules which restrict or prevent British drinking culture which was seen as problematic - different but the kinda the same, it puts off some folk going im sure)

That's what I thought. It doesnt do any harm to have as much ammo as you can on your side when prosecuting people or turning down asylum applications. Oops. Perfectly normal where I m from, soz.

Would you rather that asylum seekers didn't have these things spelt out to them?
I think I'm usually quite balanced on the whole migrant/asylum seeker issue but even I'm struggling with this one.Would you rather that asylum seekers didn't have these things spelt out to them?
I'm not going to claim to be super well-travelled but I've been to a few countries and I don't think I ever got handed a guide on how to treat people in the way that guide does.
There's a difference between "don't drink on the MRT" and "please don't rape people" where if that needs spelling out something is very very badly wrong IMO.
If I'm Reform or the Conservatives or anyone else today I'm rubbing my hands being handed this.
