Ed Sheerin Insurance Conviction.

Ed Sheeran convicted for failing to insure Aston Martin - BBC News https://share.google/H9LEAaLy3mYHraDop
I'm genuinely puzzled by this one.
Vehicle SORNed, off road in bits being restored and subject to an ICE to EV conversion yet prosecuted for no insurance.
I can't criticise the chap as I wasn't aware of a car's requirement to be insured and if my car was off road long term it wouldn't occur to me to provide insurance.
I noticed when looking through the accounts of the case on various news-sources no mention is made point on license. Does that mean it wasn't a Road Traffic Offence?

I think it wasn't Sorned. Therefore needed to be insured. I'm genuinely puzzled by this one.
