Manchester: Three Firefighter facing disciplinary action.

An Inquiry into why three Firefighters were giving rides at a Community Event.
They took Children on a round trip of two minutes a time.
It made one young lad's day... he is Fire Engine mad & is recovering from Cancer.

The Appliance & crew were booked off regular duties... but could have responded to a SERIOUS incident if required.

They are now looking to see if any H&S rules were broken & how many trips were undertaken.
(Even rumours of Industrial Action).

NB: Yet the service are encouraged to engage with the Community.

The negative side of living in a modern, civilised country that has rules, regs and procedures.

I know it's H&S gone mad but,

Were the details of what they were planning to do on that day OK'd by FB senior officers ?
What if a kid was injured ?
Were " Kids engine rides " covered by the FB's insurance ?

I grew up around the fire service (my father was a retained firefighter) and it was an absolute no-no to give rides even back in the 80s/90s, it was unthinkable.

Same for my dad even in the 60’s/70’s.

Maybe it’s one of those things that hasn’t been done for so long that it hasn’t come up recently?

Maybe the Firefighters were unaware of it being a 'no-no'.
I just hope that it can be resolved without any black marks against them.

What will an enquiry achieve? Most probably be a waste of time and money carried out by people full of their own self importance. Patting each other on the back saying what a good job they have done. Can’t bring any joy to young kids now a days.

I hope the kids had a great time and that the inquiry finds that there was no wrongdoing. I just dont see the problem with looking into it. People should always be ready to answer questions and justify themselves. I think we could do with more of that.

No problem. Just to clarify - I dont think the inquiry needs to take up too much resource, but I just cant see what's wrong with looking into the use of the vehicle and such like. I do voluntary stuff for another emergency service at events and can imagine the rules are quite strict about all sorts of things.

Apologies, It is National News... but a lot of the links have a load of adverts / bait on them.

But...No doubt the Services & other demonstrations have strict H&S restrictions.
