Churchill to be removed from UK banknotes
Discussion
I thought there would be a topic already running on this.

"World War II leader Winston Churchill is to be dropped from the UK £5 banknote in favour of a nature scene, sparking outrage from some lawmakers who said he should not be replaced by an otter or badger.
Novelist Jane Austen, artist J. M. W. Turner and mathematician and codebreaker Alan Turing, are also due to be phased out on the £10, £20 and £50 banknotes respectively as part of a redesign.
The next series of banknotes due to be issued by the Bank of England will feature animals native to the UK, in a shift away from images of prominent Britons."
Pretty sure I would be accused of being a conspiracy theorist if I made my thoughts known on this.

On the news the other day they made a point of stating that no person from an ethnic minority had been on a banknote.
I suppose it's comments like this, that someone maybe offended by who is or is not depicted, that led to them removing people all together.
Let's just hope they choose the right kind of animal.

What did we do before 2016 when Churchill appeared on the note for the first time?
There was a consultation, thousands replied that they’d prefer badgers and whatnot and the BOE listened.
You could have had your say then but people prefer to be outraged about a non-issue now than actually voice their objections at the appropriate time.
But woke, broken Britain, etc etc…

Or it could simply be that they're doing something different for this batch, and then we'll be back to dead people for the next.
Indeed, but some folk do like getting het up about inconsequential things. Actually quite pleasing to see something different on a note, and if it gets some thinking about animals and the environment then it's no bad thing either.Wheel Turned Out said:
Curious what you think the grand plan behind Austen and Turing being taken off could be.
Things change. That's all there is to it really.
Yes - I'd like to know what the plan is too.Things change. That's all there is to it really.
I quite like the idea too. Means having images that reflect the UK more rather than just people that appeal to some.

t about it? I'm absolutely not bothered if they have animals on the notes rather than historical figures, in fact, animals are probably far less contentious than people?
