Attempted bombing at NY Protest
Discussion
Just wondering if this made the news over in the UK?
https://abcnews.com/US/4-arrested-after-suspicious...
(Most news agencies reported it as a 'smoke bomb' or 'suspicious device' when in fact it was an explosive IED - even early pictures show nuts and screws from one of the devices).
After getting absolutely rinsed by people the NYT reluctantly ammended their headline

I had a little bet with myself that first "Smoking Jars of Metal and Fuses Thrown at Protest Near Mayor's House" would be the New York Times and sure enough it was.
I knew it had happened but haven't seen much in UK press though to be fair I've not been looking.
I did see something last night where I believe the NYPD confirmed it was a viable explosive device.
Seems sheer luck it didn't do some damage.

Kayumi, 19, blurted out, as he was being arrested Saturday, that 'ISIS' was the reason for his conduct, according to the complaint.
Balat, 18, told authorities that he had pledged allegiance to the terrorist organization, and Kayumi asserted that he was affiliated with the Islamic State, the indictment said.
'All praise is due to Allah lord of all worlds! I pledge my allegience [sic] to the Islamic State. Die in your rage yu [sic] kuffar!' he told investigators while he was in NYPD custody, the complaint said.

Unlike the UK courts, the US ones will ensure they get sent down for a very long spell. Two ISIS Supporters Charged with Attempting to Detonate Explosive Devices During Protests Outside Gracie Mansion

Funny how this story is getting so little traction anymore now we know the bombers are islamists....https://mol.im/a/15629469

Yes is being totally ignored by the BBC

So 48hrs after the event, the BBC decide to report on it?

Yes, and your point is?Brother D said:
The point is the media conviently ignores what would have been a fatal terrorist bombing in New York and tries to play down the seriousness. Some major outlets have now even removed articles they published trying to play down an IED attack as a 'boys day out'

The BBC reported it, they didn't ignore though. Whilst it is not an insignificant news story there are probably much more significant things going on in the world. I suspect more journalistic resources are looking at the Middle East than New York at the moment.Consider the era before the internet and 24 hour news, you probably would have never have known about this incident (and loads of other things) then.

The fact that it didn't go off and nobody was hurt probably contributed to it not being a major news story. The US has about 40,000 gun deaths/injuries per year, presumably the majority of those don't make the news. Is it that surprising they're not wasting column inches on an incident where nobody got hurt?RizzoTheRat said:

I'm not convinced. The reporting on the Alex Pretti shooting stopped dead once the names of the shooters were released. In fact the whole ICE story died overnight. There's no way that was coincidence.https://x.com/nypdnews/status/2031179948916904113?...
Grok summary:
Chief Aaron Edwards (NYPD Asst. Chief, Patrol Borough Manhattan North) heroically jumped over barricades outside Gracie Mansion on March 8 to tackle terror suspect Ibrahim Kayumi. Kayumi & accomplice Emir Balat (ISIS-inspired) had just lobbed an IED into an anti-Islam protest crowd & were about to throw another lit one. Edwards & Sgt. Luis Navarro ran straight into the danger, stopping it cold. That's why NYPD called him a hero in blue.
