Influencer HSTikkyTokky crashes his own McLaren and then absconds. He's found guilty of DD and DWI and sentenced to 1 year sentence, suspended for two years.

Did it really make sense to charter a private jet to extradite him back to the UK?

How many went to Spain to help collect him? August might be a bit hot but I can see the temptation.

Wonder who signed off on it?

It's not really, it happens all the time

Police forces have dedicated extradition units they work out the threat, harm and risk of repatriation and work out the most appropriate and cost effective method

So no it's not disproportionate it's just he's "famous" and the BBC has for hold of the story

I think hiring a private jet for £15k to extradite somebody who crashed his own car and effectively got a slap on the risk is disproportionate.

Don't get me wrong - DD and DWI are serious issues but IMHO not worth chasing somebody across Europe and spending £15k to bring them back to the UK.

Perhaps I'm being cynical but it sounds like an excuse for a jolly.

Probably the CC, 1 DCC, 3 ACC and a PC.

The judge said they should have booked first class flights to keep him out of public view rofl

How much would that have cost?

There is also the issue of whether an airline was prepared to carry him and the officers ... that is not a given

The problem with a schedule flight is the chances of some SJW left leaning do-gooder thinking that the poor lamb is being treated unfairly and kicking off.

We've had this with deportation flights in the past. Although this was into the UK and not out.

Personally, if he could afford a McLaren, then he should be paying the cost of his extradition.

I think it's reasonable to use a private jet but also reasonable to include asset confiscation to cover the costs.

That money could have been used for school books.

Do any airlines offer short haul first class?

I don't know, I think there's a form of European business class on some routes but whether airlines would want a handcuffed prisoner and his guards sitting amongst their premium paying customers is another matter

As an aside, I wonder if by absconding he has avoided part of the driving ban and/or of the period of prison sentence suspension? Hopefully both periods now start with the date of his return to the UK.
The appears to then be no additional punishment for absconding which seems wrong. At the least he has deliberately wasted a lot of police and court time.

If he'd got 5 years in prison.

I'd be far more OK with it

Why does someone being famous mean they can't go on a normal plane? I would understand if it was a gangster whose friends might try to free him or take him out but why would someone simply being famous cause a problem?
