Surgeon who had his legs removed accused of fraud
Discussion
Well this is an odd story.
"A vascular surgeon who carried out hundreds of amputation operations before having his own legs removed has appeared in court charged with fraud.
It is alleged that between 3 and 26 June 2019 Mr Hopper made a false representation to insurers by claiming that injuries to his legs were the result of sepsis and not self-inflicted."

Wowsa. Guy definitely loved his work. I hope people weren't harmed by his sick need to amputate, but I fear a few people will question the necessity of their life changing surgery."A vascular surgeon who carried out hundreds of amputation operations before having his own legs removed has appeared in court charged with fraud.

So he damaged his legs so severely (presumably, or gave himself sepsis? Risky) that another surgeon would have agreed to amputate both legs?
W the actual F
In the consultations didn’t the operating surgeon notice that this bloke was off his rocker? What’s the chances of a specialist amputee surgeon needed both of his own legs amputating? Erm… red flag!

How do you fake having sepsis?
That's what I was wondering too. I thought the main indicator that you needed limbs amputating was those limbs going black and crusty. A kind of visual clue, and that's hard to fake even with makeup. He would also have been tested and treated for sepsis which would be on his patient record. He's clearly got thinking issues if he didn't expect the insurance company to investigate.
