What do we make of this, then?

I thought they were a spy agency. They are meant to lie. Their biggest problem is they didn’t seem very good at it.

Really good work by the BBC, not unlike the SAS investigations they’ve been persistent with.

This "agent X" is a foreign national who is an informant to MI5. The MI5 does have a "trust me bro" relationship with other government bodies (including the courts) so there's an obvious vague line there when it comes to how much or how little trust runs between MI5 and other agencies/bodies. But it seems like the BBC are rankled because they missed out on a scoop and in such a delicious subject area too.
