Not sure how much truth there is but Labour are backing proposals for higher water bills for water used at peak times...

Surely putting everyone on a meter would then have everyone paying for what they use?

Great, another smart meter. My leccy and gas 'smart' meters aren't smart at all, because where I live, it doesn't get a signal.

Good luck charging me extra at peak water usage time!

Not going to happen anytime soon, everyone would have to be on a meter and in a large number of properties that's not possible without changing the supply pipework so it's going to be costly and take years the speed this country does infrastructure

I think my water company would really struggle to put me and my neighbours on smart meters as the water meter is buried about 50cm underground and over 20 metres away from my property. My broadband router is good, but not that good! rofl

Our water cost has just gone up by 46%

Not because we are using more, 46% per litre more

There were 'smart' water meters before you got broadband.
It will be no problem at all, with the correct technology.

Yes they don't use your broadband.
Mine is under the pavement approx 25 metres from where it enters my house

Yes - there are all sorts of complications. I was told by the water company engineer last year that I cant have a water meter because of the way the water in my house (Victorian mid-terrace) comes through my next door neighbours house. Not technically impossible, just loads of hassle.

Ours is at the back of the house and is read by a reader on the bin lorry driving past in the road at the front. I get a monthly email showing water use.
