Was just about to post this. A sad day one of F1's great characters. His team with thier bright yellow buzzing hornets livery were at one time one the thr great teams. Eddie Irvien and Giancarlo Fischicella (no idea how's it's spelt) were great entertainment. An let's not forget Katie Price pre all the surgery was one of their models

Indeed but you can get false positives with PSA and most older guys have it but in a non-aggressive way. Needs a delicate approach.

Eddie was brilliant, what he did for Schumacher and Hill was the right thing.

Very sad. He was inspirational as a F1 team owner and was never afraid to say what he thought, even if you had to wonder if he were 100% truthful.

Thats really sad news. I have good memories of Eddie when boss of Jordan, testing days, his hospitality, karting challenges with the engineers and sometimes Barachello and Irvine would turn up.

The Jordan 191 was one of the prettiest F1 cars ever IMO.

That’s crazy. I sometimes caught the podcast he did with Couthard and while he looked older, he seemed in good health. RIP Eddie, a real character and smart cookie!

Damn, that is sad, I had no idea he was ill at all so it's a shock to me to see he's died.

Spa 98 is the most memorable GP to me for a number of reasons, so losing him is like losing a part of that too.

I thought it a little odd that the BBC News site lists a lot of his history and achievements, even lesser known ones, but makes no mention of him being (for a short time) a BBC Top Gear presenter.

Because everyone involved in that particular era of Top Gear would rather completely forget about it.

Rightly so to.

EJ was certainly one of life's characters.

His bright yellow Jordan F1 cars with bitten & hisses and Buzzin and hornets to get round tobacco bans was great.

I always listened when he spoke it was an education.
