What a horrific crime.
Those kids must have got their racist attitudes from somewhere.

It's not proper to call them racist any more dontchano.
They aren't racists, they're just expressing a perfectly legitimate view on immigration and the loss of British culture.
In all seriousness, where are the parents... That is likely where their attitude comes from. It's events like this that makes me think the parents should get the same punishment as their kids.

They are minors with rights.
Just kids who going by the article overreacted to the old guy hitting one of them with a stick.
It’s a sad story but like all it comes with two sides.
The bloke was 80 years old, there is NOTHING that justifies any part of what happened. I agree with others that the parents need taking to task in situations like this and many others. If your kid ends up doing something like this something has gone badly wrong in their upbringing. Given their ages i doubt they will ever be productive members of society , more likely to be a blight on other decent peoples lives when they get out. Clearly the two little darlings have rights, including the right to leave elderly dog walkers to go about their business unmolested in any way.

You don't learn racism, it's an attitude that's encouraged by environment.
The truth will come out but we cannot assume it was all one sided they are innocent until proven otherwise.
Some here are jumping to conclusions.

I have friends in Leicester. Coincidentally with the same (common) surname as the prosecutor.
It is a disgusting cowardly attack, but I wonder what the origin and motivation is, since the article is no specific. First guess is offenders are white, but then there is racial tension in the city between religious groups - Sikh, Hindu, Muslim - so it's not safe to assume anything.
Horrific crime, beyond words really, heartbreaking to read.
But to address some of the comments above, our legal system provides protection ( rightly so) for children, which is what they are, charged with offences. One being anonymity, which can be removed post conviction if the trial judge deems it appropriate
Secondly they will be sentenced, if convicted, as children and will receive a much more lenient sentence than if they were adults
I would be suprised if they are convicted of murder and would imagine they will be convicted of manslaughter

I may have skim-read the account too quickly, as my recollection is that the main perp took a balaclava with him, which points to premeditation (and with elderly people anyone so far above the age of criminal responsibility would appreciate the real risk of death) unless there were arctic weather conditions at the time of the killing. But to address some of the comments above, our legal system provides protection ( rightly so) for children, which is what they are, charged with offences. Manslaughter only requires proof of the assault and not the intention. It effectively carries the same punishment yet is much easier to prove

In a letter written by the boy, after he had been charged, to a professional who was working with him, he said: "I am so nervous, well scared and worried. I accept I did it and I'm doing time, I'm just scared about how long I have to do."
He also said in the letter that his girlfriend had broken up with him and he had been "struggling with that", so he "needed anger etc releasing".
When the professional told the boy that the contents of his letter would need to be disclosed, the boy said "that's my manslaughter plea gone", Mr Sandhu told the jury.
