Drove past The Framers Dog this morning on our way to Silverstone and was confronted with about 10 police cars, horse boxes and traps running up and down the road.

I'm amazed pony and trap racing on public roads isn't illegal.

And also is extremely hopeful that our lovable caravan-using nomadic travellers will take any notice of the sign.

You can race non-motorised vehicles on the road. Horses, bicycles etc all okay.

Some Irish fellas do it every summer on the a road, usually stop when a horse dies from exhaustion and the police do some policing

Few years ago, I got in the wake of these idiots on the 3 lane A3 between Esher and Cobham! about 7am on a Saturday

The boys were going some in the outside lane. And their entourage of inbreds hanging out the windows waving them on, were weaving the shoguns and other stboxes (1 with a totally flat tyre) across all 3 lanes to stop anyone passing them.

Saw 3 Surrey police cars going in the opposite direction at full chat trying to get to the next junction to turn around. But I doubt they got there in time, and even when they did I bet no arrests were made

I often wonder if in 100 years or so there will be any of these people left? I cant imagine they get much new blood in and they are all each others brothers and cousins. Small mercy for our future generations I guess....

Where I used to live there was regular pony and trap racing on a local dual carrigeway by a number of twinkley eyed scoundrels. Every Wednesday and often at weekends, The boys in blue without a clue moslty did bugger all i(thats if they even turned up at) Shocking I know. . Once in a blue moon they would try and stop it but they would still be back as usual.

I wonder what might happen if me and my neighbour raced horses down the main road stopping traffic and causing havoc not to mention distress and injury to the animals? Let alone do it every week. Its a tough one isnt it, no....wait..

I live minutes from that roundabout. I've never seen a trap anywhere near it. Go the other side of Chichester to Bosham, and I've seen them tied up outside the pub whilst the drivers get bladdered...

As an aside, you'd likely get away with racing anything else out of the exit of that roundabout, as long as you're back down to the limit a mile up the road where there's a copse in the cental reservation (where the Aldingbourne Country Centre is) as that's where there's always a camera van whenever there's an event on at Goodwood... wink

Why are Horse and Vehicles capitalised on that sign? Road sign designers are usually on the ball with their grammar.

Best they can think of for a sign not erected for the general public, but rather an illiterate section outside of society. It’s hopeful at best.

Given the mess from ‘travelling’ and the fact the rest of us are fined merely for accidentally shoving stuff in the wrong coloured bin, from the many we now have to accommodate in our homes, how can they be allowed to carry on their mobile environmental destruction?

No, that's for mass events and where the racers are intended to have priority over all traffic.

You could race your mates on the highway, with regard to other traffic, and that would be fine. Quite common on bypasses and DC for clubs.
