FFS . it's winter ...expect bad weather....it used to be normal to get freezing conditions and snow around this time of year . But due to lazy woke reporting. It's a big deal..

Next they will cause a fuel and toilet roll rush as people panic they may be unable to buy stuff for a day or two.

Reminds me of the Barnsley couple that bought a Fabergé potato.

Yes that's why I don't watch TV, basically just doom and gloom and generally gloom never comes.

It's like if it gets warm in the summer the 25c is marked in fiery red.

Look at weather forecasts a few years ago and it was all normal colours.

I work for a News channel and we have dramatic music and a quick zoom in to a very serious looking presenter for Breaking News, nearly everyday.

It's usually something that has been on the other channels for hours.

In the news for the cold snap we are having at the moment I've seen the following gems.

"Do not travel"

"Stay at home and stockpile medicine and food".

It's a few days of cold weather. In winter. We aren't setting up for a nuclear winter.

Media is no longer about news, it's all about clicks and advertising tracking and revenue for the carrier - we are the product, not the news itself.

Could you please explain what "woke" means please? Then explain how the news these days is woke?

You've posted a news story that is clearly satire, you didn't think it was real did you??

Exactly this! Amazing how many people remain unaware of this basic fact and think that news outlets are providing some kind of news reporting service.

Yes, they over dramatise everything. If there's one thing Covid taught hem, it's that disaster porn gets clicks.

That's precisely the issue. Very few people buy newspapaers nowadays, print ad revenue has declined, and there's a much larger range of sources for news and media. It's not surprising that many newspapaers aren't reporting actual news.

They don't sell physical copy so clicks are revenue now.

Go look on somewhere like Yahoo and there's loads of absolutely pure garbage and misleading headlines intended just to get you to click.

It's all about clicks and engagement now, facts and genuine stories don't matter. It's all very planned and deliberate, that article being a prime example - idiots will be tripping over themselves to get to the comments section. People fail to realise that the 'mistakes', 'typos', and fake stories are all part of reeling in the punters.

There used to be a news site called the Southend News Network. This was a news parody site that would run stories such as the plan to close the QE2 Bridge for a Street Party doing the Jubilee to celebrate the coming together of Grays and Dartford residents. Other headlines included:

Idris Elba Cast As Nigel Farage In Movie About Coutts Bank Scandal.

Center Parcs Goes Into Administration After Giving Away 1000 Holidays On Facebook.

Thieves Raid Odeon Cinema Stealing £350m Of Pick ‘N’ Mix.

Surgeon Stops Heart Surgery To Ask Facebook Mums Group For Advice About Blocked Artery.

What was remarkable were the number of people who thought the stories were genuine - including those in the mainstream media.

Katie Hopkins (not exactly a high bar, admittedly), devoted a entire phone-in on the subject of: 'The M25 motorway is due to close for one whole week in August as the Department of Health and sports officials are organising a fitness event that’s being billed as ‘the ultimate endurance race’

There best one was a story headlined: 'Mum furious after her toddler was BANNED from a vegan kid’s birthday party for wearing a cow onesie'.... a story The Sun, Daily Mail and Daily Express picked up on and ran as a genuine piece. This tells you all you need to know about the gullibility and quality of far right journalism!
