Some interesting choices but either way what an archaic system.

Thangam Debbonaire, one of very few Labour MPs to have lost their seat in a landslide election win. Did nothing for Bristol. Massive failure. Rewarded.

Marvin Rees, so good at being Mayor of Bristol the people of Bristol voted to abolish the position. Voted with 49 other councillors for there to be an Arena on council owned land called Arena Island, then personally cancelled it the next day, having met a privately owned conglomerate called YTL on a trip to their HQ in Malaysia. Much to everyone's surprise YTL then applied for planning for an Arena on a huge housing estate they own and are building, an Arena meaning funding for roads, electricity upgrades, and even a train station upgrade, is paid for by someone else. Such a divisive figure he wasn't offered candidacy as an MP anywhere. Massive failure. Rewarded.

Meaningless, pointless, as are the recipients.

Four sub-postmasters honoured for 'services to justice'. Oh the irony is strong with this one!

It's a good reminder of how little the establishment cares about public perception. Only in a bubble do many of these make any sense to anyone.

The whole system as it stands should be scrapped. It's beyond outmoded.

If we want to persist with an out-dated system, give the responsibility to Charles to do himself 100%. Tell him to fund it out of his own purse (which will limit the number given) and then crack on with HoL reform.

+1

The British empire finished 60+ years ago. Bit silly to be still
handing out medals about it. Makes the UK look very set in
their ways.

Even so, the list of non-deserving recipients provides a good laugh
once a year.

Didn't Brenda hand out something to some popular beat combo
in the 1960s to court favour with the popular masses ?

They hand all these so called 'honours' out like confetti now. They should be reserved for people who actually do far more for society than just know people or do their jobs, some very badly at that.

It's become a joke now, totally worthless and a pointless exercise apart from looking after your mates, and chucking in a few people that had quite a good year.

Always worth remembering there's a bloody long list of lollipop ladies and all the people who selflessly help their communities for years.

They just don't get the headlines like Southgate or Khan or whoever.

Quite.

Whatever the rights and wrongs of the honours system you can bet they won't be frothing about Street who's been recognised for his public service in the same way Khan has.

Not disputing that, all the non worthy recipients totally eclipse and devalue the whole system imo. Like I said, and I quote 'they should be reserved for people who actually do far more for society'

I wouldn't give one to either, as much as Street is less wildly unpopular.

He is brown and for that reason alone there is a lot of frothing outside of London of people that dont like him (and some from within to be fair).

And despite the Tories trying to hobble the elections by using FPTP he was re-elected again. That must make some people very unhappy. oh well never mind.
