What could possibly go wrong?

You have got to admire politicians for their brass necks.

Bloody hell, he has actually picked a former EU Commissioner as US ambassador. At what point do we have to accept Starmers actions have gone from stupidity to actively trying to ruin the country.
Good job we have Farage to assure Trump these muppets are not representative of the UK as a whole.

The scuttlebut is that he (Mandelsson) was actually aiming for the Oxford Chancellorship but Hague got that.
To be honest I don’t have a problem with him doing it: he’s relatively competent and is excellent at comms and PR which is a large chunk of the job as Sir Christopher Meyer understood and performed well at. Dame Karen Pierce (the most recent) was good.
I’d be intrigued to see how Mandellson plays with the incoming team but he is a heavyweight character.
As mentioned a few posts earlier he does carry ‘baggage’ though. The s
tstorm with the oligarch yacht (and mortgages) may fade into insignificance if there is a genuine Epstein link.
But then I suspect that is the case for the vast majority of the US establishment (though the US press do enjoy pursuing Prince Andrew despite the enormous amount of evidence re certain extremely wealthy and powerful US individuals being in Epstein’s orbit).
All in all not bothered.

Seeing that headline I thought WTF?
I'm trying to give labour a bye ball. I think they're a breath of fresh air after the last s
t show. But my patience is being tried.
Mandy? WTAF!
Expletives aside I'm sure he'll get along among certain backrooms but I'd love to know the agenda that resulted in choosing him.

I don't think there is an Agenda more a complete dearth of any Political Talent . As regards any effect on Trump , Mandelson will prove a complete irrelevance .
I think so too, but you don't pick a man like that for no reason. I doubt he still holds the clout where he can pick himself. So ... that leaves room for suspicious thoughts.cheesejunkie said:

When Blair is (overtly) back in government you’ll know the clock has fully turned back to the 1990s.I'm trying to give labour a bye ball. I think they're a breath of fresh air after the last s

You make that sound like a bad thing. maybe that's just what's needed with the incoming Trump administration. This is no time for playing with a straight bat.
Agreed. Mandelson, love him or loathe him is (a) competent, (b) very observant and aware of wheeling and dealing around him and (c) is good at avoiding direct political barrages when things get sticky. He may not be the hero we asked for, but he's got the skills to be the boke we need right now.
“Hey Mike, you’re Bridish, wot you know about Mandelson.”
“He was a special advisor to the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Sir”
“He did wot, for the President of England?”
“Special advisor, Sir.”
“You mean, like Elon?”
“Well, yes and no, Sir.”
“OK, wot woz he?
“Oh, he used to be the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Sir.”
“I didn’t know that.”
“Neither did the British, Sir.”
“Really.”
“Do you remember, Tony Blair, Sir?”
“Tony, who?”
“The British sycophant, that cosied up to Bush, Sir.”
“The Bridish what, speak goddamn English, Mike.”
“Remember, Wendy Murdoch, Sir?”
“Oh that Tony, President of England. He’s going to be Ambassador?”
“No Sir.”

This may be the funniest thing ever posted.
I'm not a Starmer or - heaven forbid - Mandelson fan, but actually thinking Farage is anything other than a loudmouth puppet?
